The list below shows some of the organizations recently supported by our club:
Lions In Sight Foundation collects, sorts and distributes used eyeglasses to Mexico, Central America, and Asia. It sponsors and organizes eyeglass clinic trips to countries all over the world, where eye doctors and technicians, with the help of local Lions, examine eyes, dispense eyeglasses and refers patients requiring more eye care than can be provided on the clinic trip, to local eye doctors. www.lionsinsight.net
Canine Companions trains dogs to alert owners by recognizing and responding to doorbells, alarm clocks, smoke alarms, and human voices, which in turn provides safety, security and self-reliance to the hearing and sight impaired owners. www.cci.org
Center for Early Intervention on Deafness (CEID), located in Berkeley, offers early identification and diagnosis of hearing loss, intensive educational services, and inclusive preschool opportunities with hearing peers. Home visits are provided through the Home Based and Support Program. www.ceid.org
Contra Costa Probation Department supports public safety by providing evidence-based prevention, investigation and supervision services, as well as providing a safe environment for the department safe and those placed in custodial care.
Dogs 4 Diabetics, located in Concord, trains service dogs to detect change in their owner's blood sugar levels. www.dogs4diabetics.com
Friends of the Creeks, as a member of the Walnut Creek Watershed Council, oversees and helps maintain the health of the various creeks running through Walnut Creek. www.friendsofthecreek.org
George Mark Children’s House, located in San Leandro, provides long term housing for children with chronic illness. www.georgemark.org
Hearing and Speech Center of Northern California provides audiologic evaluations, diagnostic testing, hearing aid services, as well as repair and sale of aids and batteries. The Center provides counseling, advocacy, and referral services to the Deaf and Hard of Hearing community. www.hearingspeech.org
Hearing Loss Association of Diablo Valley is an organization which provides resource information, education, advocacy, and support to learn how to adjust to living with hearing loss. www.hearinglossdv.org
Hospice of the East Bay provides quality end-of-life care for the terminally ill. www.hospiceeastbay.org
Lions Center for the Visually Impaired (LCVI), located in Pittsburg, is a rehabilitation and recreation facility for blind and vision impaired adults in Contra Costa County. www.seniorvision.org
Robert K. Shearer Preschool, in Pleasant Hill, conducts the Early Start program for hearing impaired infants and toddlers within the Mt. Diablo Unified School District (www.mdusd.org). Through teaching by audiologists and speech therapists, students learn listening, speech and language skills. Home visits are made for newly diagnosed infants.
Sentinels of Freedom, in San Ramon, serves wounded veterans by providing housing assistance, tuition support, mentoring, and employment networking. www.sentinelsoffreedom.org
The Hearing Foundation (Ear of the Lion) maintains a hearing bank of used hearing aids to be distributed to low income persons not eligible for government assistance. www.earofthelion.org
Wilderness Camp for Deaf Children teaches sign language to the hearing impaired while they learn about outdoor living and nature.
