By working together with , we can build a future free from the burden of this disease and ensure the well-being of all individuals in our society.

HIV, which stands for Human Immunodeficiency Virus, is a viral infection that attacks the immune system, specifically the CD4 cells (T cells), weakening the body's ability to fight off infections and diseases. HIV is primarily transmitted through unprotected sexual intercourse, sharing needles or syringes, and from an infected mother to her child during childbirth or breastfeeding.

If left untreated, HIV can progress to AIDS (Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome), which is the advanced stage of the infection. AIDS is characterized by severe immune system damage, leaving individuals vulnerable to opportunistic infections.

Early detection and treatment of HIV are crucial for managing the infection and preventing its progression to AIDS. Antiretroviral therapy (ART) is the standard treatment for HIV, which involves taking a combination of medications that suppress the virus, slow down its replication, and help preserve the immune system.

Prevention is key in the fight against HIV. It involves practicing safe sex by using condoms, avoiding sharing needles or syringes, and opting for HIV testing and counseling. Additionally, pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) and post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) are preventive measures available for individuals at high risk of acquiring HIV.

It is essential to promote awareness, eliminate stigma and discrimination, and provide support to individuals living with HIV/AIDS. Through education, testing, access to treatment, and comprehensive care, we can work together to prevent new infections, support those affected, and create a society free from the burden of HIV/AIDS.

The Walayarvally Lions Suratha Project encompasses a range of activities and interventions, including community outreach programs, awareness campaigns, and educational workshops. These initiatives focus on promoting safe sex practices, encouraging regular HIV testing, and providing accurate information on prevention and treatment.

3. Prevention Efforts: HIV prevention strategies are most effective when implemented at the community level. Community-based organizations often lead initiatives targeting at-risk populations, such as providing access to condoms, promoting HIV testing, and offering harm reduction services for injecting drug users. Engaging the community in prevention efforts helps create a supportive environment that encourages safer behaviors and reduces new infections.

4. Combatting Stigma and Discrimination: HIV-related stigma and discrimination continue to be significant barriers to testing, treatment, and support.
