Vieux-Fort Lions Pre-School

The Vieux-Fort Lions Pre School project began in 1977 when the need to assist working parents with children of preschool age, was identified and considered a serious deficiency in the community.

Initially, the school was accommodated at the St. Joseph’s Catholic Parish Hall in Vieux-Fort before a pre-fabricated building in the area became available on a lease basis from the Ministry of Community Development. Following the destruction by hurricane Allen, the building was in a state of disrepair and needed replacement. Assistance was sought from the Government, USAID and other local patrons. USAID came to our assistance with a substantial grant and we continue to be thankful for this.

The Lions Club of Vieux-Fort continues in its quest to provide a sound foundation for the young children in the community. The school, which has been in existence for almost thirty (30) years, continues to promote holistic activities necessary for social, physical and moral development of its students, age 2-5. In general we try to identify and expose the children to various aspects of the community thereby creating positive learning experiences.

The Lions Club of Vieux-Fort in an effort to improve its preschool environment, have just completed a project in conjunction with the Basic Needs Trust Fund, where the entire roof was replaced and the building repainted in the LIONS colours. We are now able to house our students without the fear of them being drenched as a result of leaks in the roof. The club is also working on plans to add an extension to the existing plant to allow for the much needed Day Care service to the community of Vieux-Fort.
