How long have The Townville Lions existed? We were established in 1948 and have served the Townville and surrounding communities for over 70 years.
Where and when do you hold meetings? Our regularly scheduled meetings are the first Wednesday of the month at 6:30 p.m. at the Townville Family Ties Restaurant.
What are some of the major events you support? The Senior All-Star Games for both boys and girls basketball players. Additionally, the club sponsors an annual Voluntary Services Scholarship for students in the Maplewood catchment area. Unlike most other scholarships, this is judged on voluntary service and not GPA or test scores.
What else does the club support? Our outreach is not limited. Locally, we have supported those in need through such things as donating gas cards to the families of cancer patients who need to travel to major cities for treatment, provided Christmas meals to struggling families through our annual Turkeys N' Taters event, and provided sponsorships for local sports teams and touranments.
Do you do things other than donate funds or hold events? We provide the labor for service projects where there is a need. If a person is elderly, disabled, or struggling financially and cannot physically do something on their own or cannot afford to hire a contractor for a project, we try to assist. We can cut up fallen trees, build handicap accessible ramps, etc. Our scope is limited, but we do what we can.
How many members do you have? Currently, we carry a roster of about 26 membersand we are always looking for more new members!
Are you an organization that turns a profit? Absolutely not. We are a non-profit organization. Every penny that comes into the club through donations and fundraisers goes right back into the community. This is through our sponsorships, donations to those in need, our annual scholarships, etc. No club member profits at all from funds raised or donated.
