Club Projects: Empowering Members to Serve

Teneriffe Lions Club offers numerous projects for members to participate in if they fit their interets and available time.  These projects include:

 

Brunswick Street Pantry is a community pantry outside The Brunswick Hotel where generous locals place non-perisable food items for the local community.  Club members donate goods and promote the Pantry throughout our region.  Project Lead: Chantal

 

 

 

Christmas Cakes  The Lions Christmas Cake and Pudding program has been a major Lions Australia project since 1965 and raised more than $56million. Teneriffe Lions sell cakes and puddings to businesses as Christmas gifts and at Community markets. All proceeds are donated back to the community.  Project Lead: Michael

 

 

Community BBQs  We serve much more than just sausages. Teneriffe Lions provide BBQs to raise funds to return to the community and to assist other charities run their community events.  Charities regulaly supported at New Farm Park include Pankind, MND Qld, Heart Kids, Epic Walk for DV and others.  Project Lead: Caroline

 

 

Containers for Change Club members support container recycling by encouraging collection at community events, neighbourhood apartments and whereever containers can be saved.  Recycled containers save landfil and all funds raised are returned the community.  Project Lead: Felicity

 

 

Dinner Meetings  Club Members meet monthly at a Dinner Meeting at the Brunswick Hotel to share a meal, plan activities and hear from guest speakers on relevant local organistions.  Project Lead: Alana

 

 

Meals on Wheels  Club members volunteer at Crosby Park Meals on Wheels to deliver healthy meals to locals in our community.  Volunteers can deliver meals daily, weekly, monthly or as their time allows.  Project Lead: Shirley



New Farm Neighbourhood Centre is an institution in our community.  Teneriffe Lions supports NFNC in various ways including sponsoring meals, assisting their Coffee Program, manpower at community events and otherwise where we can.  Project Lead: Meg


 

Recycle for Sight  Lions Recycle for Sight is part of the Lions Clubs International Worldwide Eyeglass Recycling Program. Teneriffe Lions support a network of optometrists who collect used glasses from our community to send to people in need across the world.  Project Lead: Alana

 

 

Rehoming with TLC  The Club sources and delivers second hand goods to local charities for use by their clients or to deliver their services. Goods include homeware, cafe and business infrastructure. Project goals are to equip community organisations, help deserving people and reduce landfill.  Project Lead: Michael

 

 

Social Events  Members enjoy Club social events every month or so to live our mantra of: Serving the Community and have fun doing it.

Stamp Collecting  Members collect and sort stamps from the community to sell through auction, with all proceeds going to Australian Lions Childhood Mobility Foundation to help get children on their feet with specialised walking devices. Project Lead: David

 

 

Teneriffe Bushcare Group group cares for Teneriffe's bushland remnant forest, which contains both Eucalypt forest and rainforest communities.  Club Members volunteer monthly to restore local lands, remove of weeds, replace with natives, and create space for recreational habitat for wildlife.  Project Lead: Paul

 

 

Trinity Pantry is a community pantry where locals can get assistance with a range of services including help with food, bills, scripts and rent.  Members assist with donations of their time, frozen meals and financially.  Project Lead: Grant

 

 

Needles-4-Need   Club and Community members knit and crochet beanies for new born babies and for those who need extra help staying warm.  The group meets regularly in a local coffee shop as a small social group supporting each other.  Project Lead: Liz


 

Cycling Without Age connects older people and those with reduced mobility with their community and the outdoors.  Club members support the Brisbane chapter of www.cyclingwithoutage.org.au with riding services and contributions to tricycle maintenance.  Project Lead: Stella

 

Lions Youth of the Year  fosters leadership skills in Australian students by emphasising qualities like contribution to the community and school, public speaking, academic skills, sporting and cultural involvement.  Project Lead: Caroline
