5th Meeting Dec. 5,2023 at Kimbles Kitchen

Vision testing: Phil Ellis, President Surprise Lions, and Madge who worked with Phil Oct 25thdoing vision screening in a school. Phil talked about vision screening they do area schools. He demonstrated the machine that the Surprise Club owns, which costs $7,500 and must be used in a darkened room. He presented information on conditions of vision that the machine detects but the school nurse is only told the student passes or needs to be referred for further evaluation by an optometrist. He encouraged other certified Lions to work with their Club or others (he gets requests) when they screen schools. He said their Club has not considered Dysart schools which may do some of their own testing. He could also run certification training if we had enough interest. For more information go to:

4th Meeting Nov. 21,2023 at HART Pantry

Remote Lions meeting at the Sun City Lions Foundation Building where HART Pantry has their storage and assembly area for the food bags and other items provided to the teenagers they help. All attendees got to experience a sample weekend meal that the teenagers are given to help them survive the times when schools don't provide meals for them. The members brought the food donations shown on the table as well as a check for $1000 from the proceeds of the Fall Treasure Sale. Thanks to Ruth Langford the Executive Director of HART Pantry for helping us experience a little of what it means to a teenager without a loving home. Your dedication is an inspitation to us all.
