Service Activity
Lionistic Year 2017-2018.
1. Our Club started the year with a donation of school uniforms, bags and shoes to three households comprising of six children.
2. Arbor Day and World Literacy Day were both recognised at Good Shepherd Primary School in September by the planting of trees and the donation of books.
3. Our Senior Citizens were also recognised in Senior Citizen’s Month.
4. In October we participated in the Breast Cancer Awareness Walk.
5. World Sight Day was observed in October by taking some students from Springer Memorial Secondary School to have their eyes checked at the Ophthalmology Department of the Winston Scott Polyclinic.
6. In October there was also a lecture on Paediatric Cancer.
7. World Food Day was observed by the distribution of food hampers.
8. In the month of November we observed World Diabetes Day by hosting a lecture at the St. Michael School.
9. In the month of December we took some children from the Community Foster Care shopping at Sheraton Mall.
10. The Club hosted its Annual Christmas Party at Ilaro Court.
11. The Club also distributed fifteen (15) food hampers to needy families.
12. In the month of January we continued to focus on the youth and the Club presented a number of books at the Good Shepherd Primary School.
13. In the month of February a lecture on Drug Abuse was held at The Springer Memorial Secondary School.
14. Members of the Club took part in a Games Morning with the patients at the Psychiatric Hospital.
15. In the month of March there was a special donation to the HIV Food Bank in partnership with the NUPW. (National Union of Public Workers)
16. Also in the month of March Kite flying was also held at the Violet Gittens Home.
17. In the month of April the Zone Health Expo was well attended by members of the Club.
18. Also in the month of April our ‘Beautification Project’ at the Good Shepherd Primary School was started. Two bench tables, stepping stones and potted plants were donated to the school.
19. Our commitment to assist St. Ambrose Homework Project continued with a donation of stationary to the students preparing to write the Common Entrance Examination.
20. In the month of May a further donation of plants were made to the ‘Beautification Project’.
21. A presentation of a Mirror Clock was made to Captain Ken Weber and Crew of the ‘Freewinds’ in recognition of the Thirtieth Anniversary of their maiden voyage to Barbados and their selfless commitment to Lionism.
22. While continuing to ‘Serve for a Brighter Future’ Lions journeyed to the London Bourne Day Nursery to ensure that the children’s future was brighter. To ensure this, they donated a ‘Little Tikes’ toddler gym for the playground.
23. Spanish Dictionaries and Spanish Thesaurus were donated to the top girl and boy of the Good Shepherd Primary School in the 11+ Examination.
24. Members of the Service Activities Committee journeyed to the grounds of the Diabetes Association every month. They purchased fresh vegetables, ground provisions and eggs. These items were presented to the Manageress of the HIV Food Bank. This was done not only to assist some less fortunate persons in obtaining a meal but a healthier meal.
