Thomas Murphy Obituary

Tom passed away on Monday, April 15,2024 at Woodland Hill in Hudson, Wisconsin. Tom grew up on a farm in Shediac, New Brunswick Canada and went to college and medical school in Nova Scotia. While in school he met and married his wife, Edna. The two emigrated to the US and Tom started a General Surgery residency at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester. After completing his residency, they moved to Stillwater and began practicing at the new Lakeview Hospital. Over the next 36 years he touched the lives of many families in the St. Croix Valley with a broad General Surgery practice.

Tom enjoyed his Wisconsin property, planting trees, and tending his  garden. He was an avid reader and photographer. He enjoyed thoroughbred horse racing, fishing, golf, travel, and loved being a grandfather.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Edna; parents Fred and Irene; brothers William and Russell; and sister Doreen. He is survived by his daughters Leslie and Valerie (Bill); son John (Margot); grandsons Conor (Sofia) and Ryan; and great-grandchildren Helena and August.

Many thanks to the staff at Woodland Hill and Lakeview Hospice. Memorials are preferred to the Stillwater Public Library or Arbor Day Foundation.

A Memorial Celebration will be held from 4-6 pm, on Monday, April 22, 2024 at Simonet Funeral Home, 6429 Osgood Ave. N., Stillwater, MN 55082.
