The Springboro Lions Club loses its last Charter Member.

CHENAULT, Richard Conrad affectionately known to many as "CHIEF", passed away Sunday, November 14, 2010. He was born in Xenia, Ohio on December 26, 1925. A long time resident of Springboro, Dick is survived by his wife of 63 years, Phyllis Jean (Woodward) Chenault. Dick and Phyllis have four children: Beverly (John) Logan, Fred (Tami) Chenault, Rebecca Chenault, and Jennifer Miller. They also have four grandchildren: Stephanie (Frank) Lopez, Aaron (Sarah) Chenault, Andrew Chenault, and Cassie Chenault. They have two great grandchildren: Owen and Candice. Dick served in WWII in the Pacific Theater, 1st Cavalry. He was in the Philippines in 1945 and then near Tokyo from September 1945 to September 1946. Dick was the proverbial man about town. He spent much of his life dedicated to the city of Springboro and its' culture. He served on the Clearcreek Volunteer Fire Department for 45 years and served as Fire Chief for 23 of those years. He also delivered mail for 22 years to the residents of Springboro. Also, in addition to his run on the Fire Department, he worked at the Springboro IGA, Springboro Hardware, Heatherwoode Golf Course, and as a deputy policeman. He was a Charter member of the Springboro Lions Club that was formed in 1953, where he had perfect attendance until 2010. It's clear from his credentials that he had a great love for the people and the city he called home. In his later years he was often a familiar face on his Main Street front porch where he kept a watchful eye on the local businesses. Dick spent his years getting to know many of Springboros' residents over ice cream cones, new hair cuts, and cups of java. He touched the lives of many and will be deeply missed by all that knew him.  The family asks that donations be made to the Clearcreek Fire Department.
