Spokane Central Lions was chartered in 1922.

Mission Statement:  In the bonds of International friendship, service minded members of Spokane Central Lions Club lead their community through service to visually and hearing impaired, youth and diabetes awareness.

WE SERVE!

         Current projects include:

Services for the vision and hearing-impaired:  Provide exams, eyeglasses, and hearing aids to low-income families

Cornea transportTeams are on call 24/7 to provide immediate transport of corneas from a hospital to the airport for transplantation across the country, enabling many individuals to receive the gift of sight.

Hearing and vision screeningIdentify children with sight or hearing issues early enough to prevent learning disabilities.

Challenge Air sponsorship: Building confidence and self-esteem in special-needs children and youth by providing an unforgettable flying experience, including earning their wings as co-pilots.

Nursing scholarships:  $1,000-$5,000 scholarships awarded annually to dedicated, compassionate RN students at Eastern Washington University, Washington State University, and Spokane Community College.

College scholarships:  Awarded annually to outstanding local high school seniors.

High School Debate:  Honor local debaters and sponsor trophies for winners of debate competitions, a tradition dating back to the early 1950s.

Support for Camp STIX, a camp for children with Type 1 diabetes:  Provide scholarships for kids whose parents cannot afford the camper’s fee.

Christmas program for Lakeland Village residents:  Buy presents for Santa to hand out to residents with intellectual and developmental disabilities. A wide variety of entertainment is offered by Sacajawea Middle School student groups, and the school provides snacks.

Santa Party for second graders at a low-income school: Sponsor a special lunch, with each child receiving a gift, a book, and a stuffed stocking, and enjoying a science/magic show.

Partnership with a low-income elementary school:  Assist with after-school programs and provide school supplies and special needs throughout the year.

Support for Girl Scout Camp 4 Echoes: In 1938, Spokane Central Lions made property on Lake Coeur d’Alene available to Girl Scouts exclusively for a camp. Every Spring, we work on projects and assist with clean-up to get Camp Four Echoes ready for campers.

Holiday Families:  Provide gifts, cookies, and grocery cards for Christmas dinner to families in need.

Meals on Wheels:  Deliver hot, nutritious meals to homebound seniors.
