The following projects were made possible from funds raised in our annual Easter Egg Raffle and Christmas Santa Sleigh.
EDUCATION
Reading
The Club donated over GBP350.00 to Dyslexia Action to enable and support its work with individuals who need specialist help to enable them to gain literacy skills and gain employment. The cheque was presented to the Sutton Coldfield centre which caters for over 10 persons within the local community.
The Bridge Special School (Club’s flagship project)
We have taken a special interest in the school and have donated over GBP1,000.00 to support its work. The Bridge Special School offers education to children with severe and multiple learning difficulties who are between the age of 2 and 11. We have contributed to both campuses in Erdington and Longmoor, Sutton Coldfield.
MEDICAL
Cancer Care
- We raised over GBP1,050 on behalf of Marie Curie over a two-day collection at Tesco, New Oscott. Marie Curie Cancer Care provides tremendous professional support to patients suffering with cancer by providing in home care for those who wish to spend their final days in the comfort of their home.
- A donation of GBP100.00 was well received at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital towards cancer treatment.
Smith Magenis Syndrome
The Club donated up to GBP500.00 to acquire specialised equipment for a local resident suffering with Smith Magenis Syndrome.
Liver Unit
A contribution of over GBP500.00 was donated towards preparing the home for a baby suffering with a liver condition. We were able to help with amenities which allowed the infant to be discharged from the hospital and to live comfortably in the home.
OTHER
Our support has touched humanity overseas as well. We have contributed to the following projects in Africa:
- The Lions Well Project in Niger, to provide a supply of clean drinking water to rural communities.
- Supplying essential medicine for the health services in Ghana.
