Meetings

During the past year, the Scandia-Marine Lions Club:

  • Donated 17 scholarships to college-bound students from our area

  • Supported local families-in-need

  • Supported veterans causes

  • Much, much more!

At its annual Service Project Sampler Day, the Scandia-Marine Lions Club and members of the community:

- Made 38 kits for Sole Hope from blue jeans that are made into shoes for children in Uganda who suffer from a crippling foot parasite called jiggers.

- Assembled 20 Care Kits for children and adults who receive medical treatment for jiggers through Sole Hope. The kits include a variety of items, and enable patients who receive medical treatment to be able to do at-home, follow-up care so jiggers do not return.

- Put book plates into 14 books about diabetes, vision, hunger, and the environment. The books are for Scandia Elementary School, River Grove Elementary School, Marine Community Library, and Hardwood Creek Library.

- Created 22 “first period kits" for girls at Scandia Elementary School and River Grove Community School.

- Assembled 14 sensory kits for children and teens with Sensory Processing Disorder or Autism for Hardwood Creek Library and the Washington County Library system.

- Created 31 care bags for children with cancer through Children’s Cancer Research Fund.

- Knitted 1 hat on a round loom for a newborn born at Fairview Lakes Medical Center.

- Colored 32 pictures for Color-a-Smile which then sends them to seniors who are in nursing homes or homebound- veterans- and service men and women who are stationed throughout the world. These colored sheets provide a message of hope and encouragement.

- Colored 29 birthday cards for children recovering from trauma or loss due to a natural disaster through Camp Noah.

- Sewed 138 diapers from t-shirts for newborns in third-world countries through Global Health Ministries.

- Sewed 51 reusable shields, 170 liners, and 17 bags for health kits for girls in Africa using Days for Girls patterns. The kits are given to Global Health Ministries which distribute them to girls to Cameroon and Madagascar where they are in high demand. (Note: Final count of completed kits is forthcoming.)
