SAUSALITO LIONS CLUB - LION OF THE YEAR JUNE 30, 2020
The Sausalito Lions Club Board of Directors today named Dr. Cherie Safapou as "Lion of the Year" for meritorious work in humanitarian service during the Covid-19 pandemic and outstanding team leadership to co-found the Branch Health & Wellness Lions Club of Sausalito (HWLC) – the first new club sponsored since the Sausalito Lions Club founding in 1927.
The HWLC Lions team and its partners, Marin City Health & Wellness Center and The Conscious Kitchen, has worked to deliver hundreds of grocery bags, water, fruit and veggie boxes, as well as local bi-weekly "food pickups" for Covid19-affected families and students in and around Marin County. You may also help to continue its “Feeding Marin Families” campaign via an online donation at: https://e-clubhouse.org/sites/sausalito_health_wellness/page-8.php.
Dr. Safapou is also an internationally published advocate of Research and Social & Emotional Learning to prevent violence & suicide (VSPI). With her son Daniel Jahangard, she co-founded the Healthy Habits Initiative (HHI). The HWLC team is continuing her tenured ETHS-675 program at San Francisco State University’s Cesar Chavez College of Ethnic Studies. You may help HWLC to deliver the program to local marginalized High Schools via a tax-free donation check to "The Redwood Lions Memorial Foundation - HHI Project", a qualified 501(c)(3) - Tax ID 94-2831601. Mail to: Dr. Safapou-HWLC at 3030 Bridgeway Ave, Suite 236 in Sausalito, CA. 94965.
Cherie has helped individuals struggling from wealth or poverty - both young and old. She has worked with those incarcerated at juvenile hall and within the mind.
