Service From The Heart Project

The Sanger Lions Club, Future Lions (ages 12-17) and Cubs Club (ages 2-12) would like to invite the public to join them in a Community Service Project. We will be making Valentines Day cards and gifts for the seniors in the Sanger Nursing Homes. This event is open to everyone in the community of any age.

Kick-It-Kodi Book Drive

The Lions Club is proud to help support the Kick-It-Kodi Book Drive along with the Sanger HS FCCLA program. Every fall we collect coloring books and toys from the community and donate them to Cook Childrens Hospital.

Sanger Clean Up Day

Lions Clubs helps support the City of Sanger’s “Clean-up Days” once in the fall and once in the spring.

Christmas On the Square / Parade / Christmas Tree on the Square

Christmas time is a great time of year to give back to the community. Each year the Lions Club has a float in the Sanger Christmas Parade. We are proud to say in 2023 we won the “Best in Theme” for our performance in the parade. During the day we distributed out coloring books & crayons, balloons and shared what Lionism is all about with the community.

Sanger Community Strong Farm

Sanger ISD, First Refuge Ministries, New Life Church, Texas Resources and the City of Sanger started the Community Strong Farm on Milam Road in Sanger. In 2023 the Denton County Master Gardener Association and the Sanger Lions Club join the group to help support this community garden. Food grown in this garden will help support the Linda Tutt Grocery Store and the FRM. The Community Strong Farm will also be a learning place for Sanger ISD students and the community.

The American Flag Program Fundraiser

You might say this is our “Flagship” program. The Lions Club puts out the American Flag throughout the city of Sanger over six National Holidays during the year. The flags are placed at homes and businesses near the street for everyone to enjoy the spirit of Freedom.

Texas Lions Camp Work Weekend

Lions across the state assemble in Kerrville for the Texas Lions Camp Workday. These dates fall on the first weekend of March, April, and May. TLC provides a free, weeklong summer camp experience for children from Texas with physical disabilities, hearing/vision impairment, Type 1 diabetes, and cancer.

Freedom Fest 4th of July

Since Freedom Fest started in 2022, the Lions Club has helped sponsor this great community event. Giving out balloons and flags is just part of the fun we enjoy during Freedom Fest. We also place the Flags at Porter Park during the Freedom Fest Weekend. In 2024 we will have 100 Flags on display and will add 25 each year. The goal is to have a flag for each year since Sanger was founded in 1886.

Lions Eyeglass Recycling Center

Sanger Lions members meet in the spring and fall at the Watauga Recycling Center, evaluating, cleaning, and cataloging donated eyeglasses. They are then packed into boxes according to prescriptions and stored until volunteer humanitarian groups need them. We have 10 recycle collection boxes in Sanger that we maintain.

Vision Screening Services

Sanger Lions provide free vision screening for children and adults in our community. Vision screenings help to identify potentially serious vision problems that could lead to blindness. Nearly 1 in 4 children have a vision issue that can be identified and corrected. In 2023 the Lions Club helped SISD nurses screen over 900 students for vision and hearing.

Cubs Club Programs

Starting in 2024 the Sanger Lions Club will focus our efforts on family service. The “Cubs Club” are children ages 2-12 who will have an opportunity to do community service with their family members. It is never to early for you to show and teach your children about giving back to the community and helping those in need.

Future Lions Programs

It is never to early to start thinking about what the future of Sanger will look like years from now. Our Future Lions will have that opportunity to not only think about this but be able to do something about this. Future Lions are students ages 13-17 who want to make a difference in the community and earn valuable community service hours while working alongside their family members, future Lions, Cubs and Lions members.

Young Leaders in Service

Young Leaders in Service are students in High School or College who want to wok alongside the Lions Club to earn valuable Community Service Hours. They may or may not be in the Future Lions Program. This is a great opportunity for young people to build their community service hours for college and/or work resumes. This helps support programs like the NHS and FCCLA and many others that require community service hours.

Sanger ISD Backpack Program

The Sanger ISD Outreach Program helps those students in need. Backpacks are being given out each week with much needed food and snacks. This allows them to have food over the weekend that they might not otherwise have.

Scholarship Programs

Each Spring the Sanger Lions Club selects three students to receive a $2,000.00 scholarship for college and/or a Trade Schools.

Youth Contest Programs

High School Juniors and Seniors can enter the Outstanding Youth Contest, Diabetes Awareness Essay Contest and The Drug Awareness Speech Contest. Students compete at Local, District, State levels for scholarships funds that could earn them over $5,000.00.
