AUGUST 2021
This was a month of reflection. Members came together for our Virtual Club Retreat 2021, under the theme 'Resilience'. We were inspired by the featured presenter, Dr. Deborah Bartholomew, an artist, medical doctor and author by profession.
As we celebrate 40 years of existence we aspire to maintain resilience for 40+ more years to come and achieve the successful execution of 40 projects within this Fiscal Year.
SEPTEMBER 2021
Education and youth were the focus during September. Devices were also distributed to Secondary and Primary school students, while some were assisted with school supplies (uniform, text books & stationery).
Additionally, awareness was raised about our global cause of Childhood Cancer also known as Paedeatric Cancer in collaboration with the Just Because Foundation of T&T. 12 of the first book in the series of 'Anansi goes to hospital' was bought from the JBF. These books will be used to share the stories of its characters through interactive sessions with primary school students.
OCTOBER 2021
A funfilled month of activities was had in October. This began with a birthday feeding, followed by a Virtual Party Night fundraiser which yielded our first contribution, as a contributing club, to the Lions Club International Foundation.
Members were also present in service at the National Health Care Fair' on 29th and 30th October, a collaborative project with the Ministry of Health.
However, while multi-tasking, we wowed supporters with our sumptious 'Lions Que', bar-b-que fundraiser on 30th October.
NOVEMBER 2021
November is well known as Diabetes month in the lions fraternity. Thus, service projects conducted during this time were aimed at raising awareness about this illness.
Toward this end, and in honour of celebrating 40 years of existence, the club collaborated with Bryden Pi and Welfor Medical for this project. 40 Diascan machine kits, also called Glucose Blood Monitor kits, were donated to 4 health centres in the communities that we serve. Diabetic clinic Patients of the San Juan, Barataria, Aranguez and El Socorro Health Centres were selected as recipients of these kits. Other lions clubs and the Centre for Socially Displaced Persons also benefited from this donation.
SanBar was also invited to be a part of the Success Laventille Lions Club's Health and Wellness fair. This was done as a joint project, where patrons were offered various health examinations, test, advise etc. at no cost.
Another service project conducted was that of Diabetic Eye Screening in collaboration with the T&T Diabates Association for residents of the Barataria and San Juan areas.
Further, once again in honour of our ruby anniversary, the club in conjunction with John Dickinson & Company distributed 40 bags of school stationery supplies to students of 8 primary scholls within our catchment area.
DECEMBER 2021
Our signature project this year saw the distribution of 153 food hampers at a value of approximately $700 each, along with Christmas gifts for children of the households. Among recipients of these hampers were Matelot residents, the students and their families who benefited from our 'Write from the Start Project' conducted with 8 primary schools in our catchment area and students of the Morvant/Laventille Secondary school.
A total of 250 christmas gifts were distributed inclusive of those donated for our region project this year. On the other hand, the primary school students upon receiving their gifts and hampers were also treated to snack bags, candy bags and other delicacies.
Our sponsor club, the Port of Spain East LC, was also invited for a joint collaboration to distribute food hampers to those students of the Morvant/Laventille Secondary School.
Covid19 has once again prevented the annual Christmas Day visits to the Mollineau and Tristscher homes this year, another signature project. Nonetheless, residents received their annual treats of gifts and breakfast, with an addition of drinks (Malta & Ginseng) donated by the AnsaMcAl Group of companies.
Also, our Jamaica Christmas feeding Programme was a success in 2021. Displaced residents of Hillside, St. Thomas were treated to a sumptious lunch of a Jamaican christmas menu Christmas Day.
