RYE CITY LIONS WORKING FOR OUR COMMUNITY

  • Rye's Got Talent: an exciting talent competition for middle and high school students that awards cash prizes to winners at each school level. All students from the Rye area schools are invited to perform before professional judges each spring at the Rye Country Day School Auditorium. Proceeds are donated to Guiding Eyes for the Blind and Vacation Camp for the Blind. An application form can be found on this web site. The date of the next competition is yet to be determined - stay tuned to this site.
  • Athlete/Scholar of the Month & Year: each month a student athlete from Rye High School is named athlete of the month and presented with a certificate. At the end of the school  year the names of all the monthly winners are put to a vote by the entire student body to elect the student athlete of the year. At an award dinner in June each of the monthly winners receives a cash prize, and the student voted Athlete of the Year is awarded a grand trophy in addition. Students are cheered on by their parents, coaches, school officials and the entire Rye Lions Club.
  • Charter Dinner: held each November to commemorate the founding of the Club. A highlight of the dinner is the awarding of the James A. and Marian Shea Community Service Award that honors a member of the Rye Community who has donated time and effort to improving the quality of life for Rye's citizens. A nomination form is attached to this web site.
  • Eye Glasses Collection: is an on-going effort throughout the Rye community. Eye glasses are repaired and recycled for use by those who might not be able to afford corrective lenses.
  • Winter Coat Drive: held periodically to supply gently used winter coats donated by the community to those in need.
