Celebrating 92 Years of Lionism

The Rye City Lions's Club Charter Dinner in November is always special. The Club was chartered in 1927 giving members cause to revel in the Club's longevity of supporting the community and services for those with challenges to their vision. A tradition of the yearly celebration since 2003 has been the awarding of the James A. and Marian M. Shea Award to a community person who sets an example of volunteerism. Rye is an exceptional community and is fortunate to benefit from the skills, enthusiasm and generosity of time and spirit exemplified by each year's awardee. The dinner on November 15, 2019 honored Roz and Peter Lahr.

The Lahr's have been active in the Rye community for numerous years lending their talents to the Twig Organization, The League of Women Voters, Rye committees and governance, the Rye School District, their church, the Rye Historical Society, the Rye Art Center, the Human Right's Commission and more. Recognition of this couple was so well deserved.

The Rye City Lions Club  also launched the David M. Heller Award for Community Organizations. Dave who passed away last year was a pillar of the community and the Club. He served as the Club's Secretary / Treasurer for year upon year and his devotion to its service was vital to the Club's longevity and success. The award is dedicated to his memory and was awarded to The Rye Sustainability Committee.
