Our club was proud to be a part of the Brisbane Metro Depot Community One Day at Rochedale yesterday by providing the traditional Lions sausage sizzle, which was a great way to promote our club to the many new residents in the surrounding area. here is our team with Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner
Children of Courage Award
Charity Car Drive and auction - Camp Duckadang:
Our club ran this drive for the first time this year to promote Camp Duckadang and raise funds for Youth Inserach that run counselling programs there. A very successful auction of goods donated by a number of businesses was held to suppliment the funds raised. We hope to make this an annual event.
Mother’s Day high tea
It has been somewhat of a tradition that our club do a Mother’s Day High Tea at Yurana for the mothers there. This year there were 27 Women and four Men that attended. As in previous years, fine china cup saucer plates and tiered cake plates were produced by our members, which were loaded with sandwiches, small cakes, hot savouries and beautiful cupcakes .
Bunnings Underwood Volunteers Networking Breakfast
Two of our members, Adrian and Sandra Smith, attended a Volunteers Networking Breakfast at Bunnings Underwood on the 19th May to represent our club and had some great food and morning tea! They met up with lots of local groups with over 50 people there and learned about all the people that Bunnings support and the groups they have helped this year.
New Members
Great to have added another two members to our club Here President Trevor is inducting new Lions Andreas and Suren at our recent dinner meeting. Both operate businesses out of Springwood Mall that has been a long term supporter of this club.
Supporting Youth Insearch
Our next project is a Charity Car Drive.
The aim of this project is to raise funds to sponsor Youth Insearch weekend workshops (contribute to accommodation costs, transport, and meal costs etc) and eventually to make this an annual event with corporate sponsorship in conjunction with our Lions club
Youth of the Year club level judging
Congratulations to Blake from Rochedale State High School who won both the public speaker and overall prize in our club level Youth of the year quest held today. Blake will now go on to represent our club at the region finals.
Australia Day Citizenship Ceremony
Our club was honoured, once again, to have Dr Jim Chalmers MP as the presiding officer at our annual Australia Day Citizenship Ceremony at which 47 conferees from 18 different countries were welcomed as new Australian citizens
Member honoured with an Order of Australia (OAM) award
Lion Greg Nothling has been honoured with an Australia day award with an OAM
Spectacle recycling
Lion Brian has reported that his recent collection of 206 pairs of spectacles from our supporting optometrists have now been sent to the Lions Recycling Centre.
New member induction
PCC David McKenzie had the pleasure of inducting our newest club member, Samuel Chamberlain, at our January dinner meeting assisted by his sponsor Maurie McKenzie
Christmas run by Logan emergency services teams
Once again our club has provided some sweets to Louie from the Logan House Fire Support Network for the kids lining the streets during the Logan Emergency Services Christmas day run
