Rathdrum Lion's Club Foundation

The Foundation, a 501 (c) 3 non-profit organization, accepts money via grants, endowments, cash donations and activities to feed approximately 200 school children on the weekends throughout the school year through the Weekend Nutrition Backpack Program.

Feed body and brain and watch them grow! We aim to fight hunger, and increase learning potential, in school age children identified as in need. By bringing community partners and resources together, we provide supplemental weekend nutrition throughout the school year.

**Project Description**

As part of the Weekend Nutritional Backpack Program, we purchase nutritional food from the Second Harvest Food Bank and store it in our approved storage facility.  Every month we assemble approximately 400-600 food kits.  Twice a month on Thursday we deliver the food kits to the nine schools in Lakeland Joint School District #272. These schools are in Athol, Twin Lakes, Spirit Lake, Garwood and Rathdrum, Idaho.  Every Friday a school representative hands the food kits to the children as they leave school.  

The children in the Rathdrum area that are returning to school on Mondays malnourished and non-attentive in class have been identified by the school nurses and counselors.  There is no program to feed these children on weekends at the City, County, State and Federal levels.  This is an ongoing problem and each year the number of children fluctuate. 

For $238.00, we can send a child home every Friday with enough nutritional food for the two and three-day weekends for the entire school year.  This food does not require a stove, refrigerator or microwave.  Please consider sponsoring a child for $238.00.
