The Port Jefferson Lion Club was formed in 1946 by a group of local business men and residents who were interested in improving their community. Membership is open to men and women who care about the place where they live or work.
Kenson D. Merrill, a local businessman was the first President. The club is part of Lions Clubs International which has more than 1,350,000 members in more than 206 countries. Lions have more member countries than the United Nations.
Every penny the Port Jefferson Lions raise from the community is donated to charity. This year the Port Jefferson Lions Club will donate more than $43,000 to the charities listed and more.
