Lions help support the blind and visually impaired. Our motto is "We Serve." Our Club was chartered March, 1973.
Pilot Lions collect used eye glasses and recycle them. If you have used eye glasses you would like to donate call Graham Baker at 919-961-1436
Some community projects the Pilot Lions have organized and sponsored are:
Purchase eyeglasses for locals who are financially challanged. Give two scholarships to local high school graduates. Provided roofs for the dugouts at Lion's Park and fencing down the first baseline. Provide a free meal to our local senior citizens yearly. Sponsor a Lion's Peace Poster Contest.
Some Lion Statewide Projects include:
Brighter Vision which aids the visually handicapped. These include provision of white canes, radios, scholarship for children of blind parents, research grants in areas of blindness, financial assistance for a fishing tournament for the blind, and many others. NC Lions have a camp located on Lake Norman near Charlotte that provides a getaway for visually impaired each summer. They also help support the Boy's and Girl's Home located on Lake Waccama NC. The home is a caring, secure facility for neglected, underprivileged, and homeless children since 1954. VIP Fishing Tournament-a fishing tournament for the Visually Impaired sponsored by Lions of NC. The tournament occurs in October each year and more than 500 participated in 2009.
Franklin County began construction on Lion's Park May of 2010. The ballfields are now complete. Please ride by Pilot Bypass and take a look. Two Baseball/softball fields are shown. The Park also has a childrens playground and picnic shelter, paved walking trail and a field that can be used for soccer. The bathroom/concession stand has been completed.
