Recycling Eyeglasses

We volunteer at the Chesapeake Eyeglass Recycling Center on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of each month; however other service days can be arranged through contacting Lion Cecil Smithson at 757-375-8925 or email at csmithson1@cox.net.  If you or your organization would like a tour of the facility also please contact Lion Cecil.  Lions Cecil Smithson and Meredith Coldren are members of the District 24D Eyeglass Recycling Board.

SPOT Vision Screening Project

Our goal is to offer vision screening for all preschool and kindergarten-age children in the daycares and private and public schools in Ocean View every year.  We gladly help other clubs with their vision screening in the District.  As of the end of 2020, we have screened almost 13,500 children and over 2,500 adults.  If you note a screening event on our calendar and want to help, please call our Sight & Hearing Chairperson at 757-478-1485.

Assistance with Vision & Hearing Evaluation, Purchase of Eyeglasses and Hearing Aids

Vision and Blood Sugar Screening

We help local people who have low income or no insurance with vision and hearing evaluations and getting eyeglasses and hearing aides.  We call on our Lions District Charity Foundation for more expensive services such as hearing aides and surgery.  We have vision screenings at healh fairs, schools, churches, and community groups using SPOT technology.  All our services are free except for requesting co-payments for eye glasses and hearing aides.  For assistance with these services, call our Sight & Hearing Chairperson at 757-478-1485 or email ovlions@yahoo.com.

Beginning 2015, we are able to offer blood sugar screening for possible diabetes as this disease is a major cause of blindness.  One of our club members is a certified diabetes instructor.  Also call 757-478-1485 if you want this free service.

Norfolk Ocean View Community Beach Legacy Grove

With the Norfolk Little Creek Lions Club and through the Norfolk Tree Commission we helped pay for and plant 14 live oaks  near the beach.  These trees will provide shade and beauty for visitors of this site and will provide a memorial to our two clubs and relatives of several donors.

Adopt A Spot - Lennox Creek Cleanup

In 2021, we took on a Norfolk "Adopt A Spot" - Lennox Creek Cleanup.  We plan on cleaning this creek once a month.  In our first cleanup, we gathered 14 large bags of trash in a two-hour period.
