Meets 1st and 3rd Tuesdays at 7:00 p.m.

 

HOW "WE SERVE"…

Used Eyeglass Collection – glasses are distributed to individuals in need locally and internationally (collection boxes available at Garden City Elementary School, Mount Pleasant Baptist Church, Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church, National Optical, and OPN Law Offices)

SPOT Eye Screening – the club has a new SPOT eye screening device used at schools, churches, pre-schools and community events, to detect eye defects in all ages, including children as young as 6 months

Eyeglass Recycling – Lions volunteer hours at the Roanoke Lions eyeglass recycling center, cleaning, identifying, and packaging glasses donated from across the country for distribution around the world

Weekend Food Backpacks for Schoolkids – Lions support the purchasing and packaging of weekend food backpacks for low-income children at Garden City and Mount Pleasant Elementary Schools

Roadside Cleanup – Lions do regular roadside cleanup on Sterling Road

Mission of Mercy – Lions give time and financial support to Mission of Mercy (MOM) Project, providing dental care to those who are low income, underinsured, disabled or senior adults.

Lions Assisted Medical Project – Lions give time and financial support to Lions Assisted Medical Project (LAMP), a part of the Remote Area Medical Clinic, providing health care, vision care, and dental care to thousands of people that cannot afford basic care needed for healthy living.

Community DJ – a Lion DJ volunteer is available free of charge, schedule permitting, for local community events

Back to School Shopping Project – at the beginning of each school year, Lions coordinate a shopping evening at the Franklin Road Kmart for local families needing assistance with back-to-school clothing and/or supplies

Breakfast with Santa – each December, Lions sponsor a free pancake breakfast for area families, with a special visitor from the North Pole arriving with treats for the children

Christmas Shopping Project – each December, Lions coordinate a shopping evening at the Franklin Road Kmart for local families needing assistance with clothing and a toy for children's Christmas gifts

Community Helping Hand – from time to time, the club is able to provide assistance with special needs in the community over and beyond our regular ongoing projects

Clubhouse Rental – we make our facility available for family and community groups (click CLUBHOUSE RENTAL tab at left for more information)

Eye Exams and Eyeglasses – the club assists with providing eye exams and/or eyeglasses for children and adult who might not otherwise be able to obtain these services

Reading Machines – the club provides machines to make type larger and easier to read for visually impaired users
