LEO CLUBS PREPARE YOUNG PEOPLE
FOR A LIFETIME OF LEADERSHIP
For Young People
WHO CARE
LEO clubs are open to young people with good character who have an interest in serving their communities. Based in schools or in the community, Leo schools are divided into two blocks:
Alpha and Omega.
ALPHA LEO CLUBS are tailored for young adults between 12 and 18 years old. This track focuses on the individual and social of teens and pre-teens.
OMEGA LEO CLUBS are tailored for young adults between 18 and 30 years old. This track is designed for the personal and professional development of young adults.
FUN, VALUABLE & REWARDING
Youth who join ALPHA CLUBS have fun, make new friends and experience the rewards of serving others. This gives young people a strong foundation as they learn the meaning of leadership and service.
OMEGA CLUBS help members further develop their leadership skills and prepare them for a lifetime of community involvement and contribution to society. Plus, Leos learn valuable lessons and make connections. that can help them succeed for the rest of their lives.
JOIN OUR HISTORY OF SUCCESS
Leo clubs are sponsored by local Lions clubs through Lions International, the world`s largest community service organization, with 1.4 million members across the world.
The first Leo club was started in 1957 by the Glenside Lions club in Pennsylvania, USA by Jim Graver, a high school baseball coach. Now there are more than 5,700 Leo clubs in over 140 countries with more than 160,000 members.
Last year here in Moose Jaw, the Early Bird Lions had the opportunity to host over 50 Leo club members from Europe from 12 different countries down at Wakamow Park for a BBQ and so much more. Most Leo clubs at some point will interact with other Leo Clubs, either in Canada or Internationally.
Leos provide hope when they implement projects to help CHILDREN in need.
IN INDIA, Leos assist children with disabilities by organizing a sports competition where the children can showcase their abilities.
IN PORTUGAL, Leos provide educational experiences for underprivileged children through outings to museums, workplaces and other sites that stimulate the children`s learning
IN TUNISIA, Leos spend time a local hospital with young patients. They take the children to the zoo, beach and have set up a special room in the hospital where the children play, listen to music and use computers.
IN THE USA, Leos paste materials in picture books so the visually impaired children can develop tactile skills needed to learn braille.
IN AUSTRALIA, Leos hold an annual fundraiser to help support their year`s projects. ``TRASH FOR FASH`, is an annual event where the Leos use used clothing, re-alter and re-design the used clothing and hold a large fashion show, where the altered clothing is auctioned off to raise funds for their club`s endeavors.
