Plastics Recycling Service Project
The Montville Lions Club collects thin plastics for recycling throughout Montville to help the environment. The plastic grocery bags, bubble wrap, Ziplock bags, produce bags and similar soft stretchy plastics that we collect do not biodegrade. Instead, they eventually breakdown into smaller and smaller toxic bits of itself to pollute the earth and the oceans. The Montville Lions Club collects these plastics (not the soda bottles or other hard plastics that go into recycling bins) and sends them to the Trex Company to be made into recycled plastic products like decking, railing, chairs and other outdoor products. For collecting 1000 pounds of plastic, the Trex Company provides one of their outdoor benches as a thank you. You can see our first bench at the Montville Transfer Station. If you wish to help, you can bring your thin stretchy plastics to that same Montville Transfer Station.
The Montville Lions Club would like to thank our contributors including the following major contributors of plastic:
Montville Hardware
Dollar General
Montville Union Baptist Church
Montville High School Cafeteria
Uncasville Diner
Montville Transfer Station
Thank you also to club members Bruce Engelman and William Gouthro for their tireless service that makes this project successful.
