The Montville Lions Club was sponsored by the Norwich Lions and was chartered 1958. Over the years the club has been involved with various fundraisers such as Christmas tree sales, Thames River Raft Race, Montville Fair, pancake breakfasts, Montville Harvest Festival, corned beef dinners, a Valentine’s Day dance, comedy nights, herb sales, pasta dinners, road races, military whist and an entertainment book.  The largest sum ever raised by one event was $9,000 at the 1980 Montville Harvest Festival.  Funds raised have been used to purchase eye glasses, sponsor a Little League team, sponsor an individual for Girls State, purchase eye testing equipment for local schools, sponsor a youth exchange with Canada and award scholarships and service awards to high school seniors.  The club has also been a contributor to several Lion Charities. See our Club Projects page.

Service activities have included helping to move three couples into elderly housing, donating and installing air conditioners in the housing recreation room and in the Montville Senior Center.  Club members remodeled the Senior Citizens Hall and also donated tables and chairs.  At the request of the Montville Historical Society the club, along with others, helped move an historical structure to a new location.  The Montville Lions sponsored a Christmas party for disabled individuals, assisted the local chapter of the Center for the Blind during their monthly dinners, and has provided food for Thanksgiving and Christmas baskets.   The club installed lights at the Montville High School football field, constructed stage and dressing rooms at the Camp Oakdale pavilion and helped in the construction of a New Community center.  This project required $8,000 of the funds raised by the club.

The next meeting of the Montville Lions Club will take place the second Wednesday of the month at the Uncasville Diner, beginning at 6:30 PM.  Please note we do not meet regularly in July & August.

Interested in becoming a Montville Lion or just want to help once in a while?  (for example: help with a road cleanup once a year or a couple hours once a year using your pickup truck for setting up for our Christmas tree sales ...) Please let us know at montvillelions@yahoo.com or at our next meeting - we would love to be able to do more with your help! We are also on Facebook!
