Eyeglass & Hearing Aid Recycling
Unsure of what to do with old glasses or hearing aids? Help turn someone else's dream of sight or sound into a reality by donating your used eyeglasses, prescription sunglasses and hearing aids. Your donation can change a person's life.
- Collected eyeglasses are sent to Lions of Illinois Foundation. Donated glasses will be cleaned, sorted and distributed to those in need. They are often sent to impoverished areas of the world, where Volunteer Eye Doctors screen patients who in most cases have never seen an eye doctor.See the Journey of a Pair of Eyeglasses for the beginning to end process.
Curious about how used eyeglasses can make a difference in someone's life? View the New Glasses, New Life video featuring a weaver from rural Mexico who was given the gift of sight.
- Used Hearing Aids are collected sent to Lions of Illinois Foundation. The aids are checked and refurbished to be used for individuals that match the specifications of the aides.Hearing aids are sorted for usefulness, reconditioned and coded, then returned to the Hearing Aid Bank. Then they are ready for distribution
Used cell phones are collected and refurbished and reprogrammed for 9-1-1 to be given to women at Shelters for Battered Women to be used for emergencies only.
Old keys are collected and sold for the recycling of the metal content. The monies received are used by the Lions of Illinois Foundation (LIF) for charitable functions.
