Lions 2018 Scholarship Winners
Sydney Shipe was a member of the National Honor Society, the Science National Honor Society, and the Quill and Scroll International Honor Society. She played JV and Varsity Softball, Varsity Cheerleading and was the Chief Photo Editor for the Yearbook. In that position, she was in charge of the layouts and spreads for the entire yearbook. She also shadowed a physician in the operating room at Shady Grove Hospital and shadowed a nurse practitioner at Middletown Valley Family Medicine. In addition, she donated many hours as a volunteer at the Food Bank, at Middletown Valley Family Medicine and at her church. Even with all these activities, Sydney has worked as a hostess at the Main Cup for the past several years
Brooklyn Poff is a member of the National Honor Society, the National Tech Honor Society, Captain of the Varsity Cheerleading Squad, a Skills USA Member, and Vice President of the American Institute of Architecture Students. She was the Team Leader for the Career and Technology Center’s Design Team last year. She has won awards at the local, state and national levels. Brooklyn coaches’ young cheerleaders, tutors’ math and English and has been a volunteer for Toys for Tots and the Salvation Army. In addition, she also worked as a tumbling instructor at Perfect Balance Tumbling
Georgia Chahalis was a member of the National Honor Society and of the Science, Math, French and Sign Language Honor Societies. She was Captain of the Lacrosse Team and participated in cross country and basketball. She was a member of the French Club, Key Club, Best Buddies Club and Future Business Leaders of America. Georgia is Vice President of the Youth Organization at her Greek Orthodox Church. She was one of six young women selected to perform Greek dance at the White House for Greek Independence Day. She is an active volunteer at her church and at the Soup Kitchen and the Salvation Army. In addition, she worked as a medical file clerk at Capital Women’s Care, as a lacrosse referee and as a cook and cashier at Aleko’s Village Cafe. Georgia could not attend the Lions Awards meeting but we caught up with her somewhere in Europe!

The MAIN CUP Restaurant Generously Supports the Middletown Lions Club
Ron Forrester, President of the Middletown Lions Club (right), presents a Certificate of Appreciation to Bob Brenengen, owner of the historic Main Cup Restaurant in Middletown Md. The restaurant also hosted a Christmas Party for the Lions where this presentation was made.
Mr. Brenengen generously donated $888.00, a percentage of the restaurant's receipts on November 14th, to the Middletown Lions. The club will use the funds for their local projects including, Middletown Food Bank, Middletown Valley People Helping People, High School Scholarships, Boys' and Girls' Scouts, Diabetes Research and programs associated with low and lost vision.
