What Llantwit Major & Cowbridge Lions do

We are part of Lions International, the world’s largest service club organisation with 46,000 clubs worldwide and 1.35 million members.  Lions do whatever they can to help their local communities.  Locally, in addition to providing services such as diabetic screening, “Message in a Bottle” and support to people with special needs, we raise money in a variety of ways to support various good causes, projects and initiatives, examples of which are listed below.

  • Deserving local individuals and groups.
    • Support for a family in very difficult circumstances.
    • Funding for equipment for a local disabled person.
    • Cowbridge Monday Club for special needs adults.
    • Xmas presents for disadvantaged children.
  • Local charities.
    •  Vale Food Bank, British Legion, Barnardo’s Cymru, Samaritans, Salvation Army, Vale Plus, Diabetes UK
  • Local young people in developing and achieving their ambitions.
    • Supporting local schools
    • Local comprehensive school pupils working with disadvantaged children in countries such as Venezuela and India.
  • Lions Clubs International Foundation charitable projects worldwide.
    • Eye Health programme including Sight First, a long running project to prevent and cure blindness in the Third World.
    • One Shot, One life, an initiative to combat measles worldwide.
    • Disaster relief worldwide.

By giving to Lions you can be sure that your money is used for worthwhile and charitable purposes.  We are all volunteers.  Our administrative costs are covered by our subscriptions.  Donations to those who need help are managed by Lions locally.

As an alternative to donating money you are welcome to join us and help with our activities
