NTERNATIONAL PEACE POSTER COMPETITION SPONSORED BY THE LIONS CLUB OF HOUT BAY.

The Peace Poster competition is an annual event organized by Lions International and involves Lions clubs all over the world including China, Japan, Australia, America and Europe. Having run for the past 25 years, it helps to teach young children the meaning of peace in society. This year’s theme was ‘IMAGINE PEACE”

This year children from Oranje Kloof, Sentinel and Ukanyo primary schools participated. Extramural art classes are sponsored and organized by the Lalela Foundation whose founder and President is Andrea Kerzner.  who believes that  understanding the power of the arts to connect with children on an emotional, mental, and spiritual level, helps with the transformation of those affected by extreme poverty.

Last weeks’s judging of this annual event at the Hout Bay Library Hall was a great success, showing the some outstanding talent in these young people. the overall winning posters of the HB group will go into the District 410A judging which includes over 50 clubs and takes place on the 20th October.  The winner from District 410A then goes to the Multiple District judging (comprising 4 districts) - the winner of which then goes on to America to be judged alongside work from countries from all over the world on October 20.

From each of the Hout Bay schools one winner was chosen and they are:

Ukanyo Primary – Sinesipho Mgemare with runner up Lubabalo Marinise

OranjeKloof Primary – Sakhi Safuo with runner up Asive Limekhayo

Sentinel Primary – Faizel Maithee with runner up Anthony Leggett.
