Xin’an Special Education School originally situated near the city railway for the transportation of coal. The school consists of two dilapidated school buildings and a water leakage hall. There are total of 94 infants of which 74 are deaf and 28 are mildly mentally retarded. Local government decided to grant the school an old office premises of a power company as a new school site. However, classroom supplies, language teaching equipments, computer laboratories and devices and renovation cost should be self financed.
To commemorate the 15th Anniversary of Lions Club of Central, our Board of Directors decided to raise fund for the establishment of Lions Club of Central Xin’an Special Education School. Introduced by Henan Disabled Persons’ Federation, we had decided to donate a visually-impaired and mentally retarded school in Luoyang City. With the grant from Lions Clubs International and support from our sister club Taipei New Grand Lions Club, we successfully raised RMB600,000 for the renovation of school building and purchase of equipments for special education. Finally, the opening ceremony of Lions Club of Central Xin’an Special Education School was held on April 6, 2007.
