The Gettysburg Lions Club
The Gettysburg Lions Club was organized in 1924 and is part of Lions Clubs International which consists of over 14 million members in 46,000 clubs around the world.
Service Activities
The Gettysburg Lions Club has served the community and those less fortunate for the past 99 years. Service projects current and past are:
- Founded the Gettysburg Community chest, the forerunner to the United Way of Adams County.
- Constructed and maintain a picnic pavilion in the Gettysburg Recreation Park to be used by all.
- Provide “bell ringers” for the annual Salvation Army fundraising drive.
- Provide road clean-up of State Highway 97, used heavily by tourists.
- Provided security, traffic and tour guide services at the PA Water Festival—over 1500 sixth graders learned about the environment.
- Provide volunteers for the Gettysburg Festival and Brass Band Festival.
- Donate money to the Adams County Library Memorial Fund and, over the years, contributed and continue to contribute large print books for the sight impaired.
- Award an annual high school scholarship.
- Recognize an outstanding student each month from Gettysburg High School,
- Collect and recycle thousands of pairs of glasses for the benefit of the less fortunate of the World needing vision assistance.
- Funding for recycling containers at rec. park
- Provide eye exams and glasses for local residents with financial needs.
- Annual Christmas party for visually impaired
