MEMORY WALK
Gainsborough Lions Club have just succesfully completed their fifth annual Memory Walk for The Alzheimer's Society.
The first Memory Walk in 2010 attracted 30 walkers plus members of gainsborough Lions. Our walk on Sunday 26th October 2014 attracted in excess of 250 walkers, which is something we are immensely proud of and hope to continue the walks for the forseeable future.
Money raised goes towards research and also to help local dementia sufferers and their carers.
These Memory Walks were started following one of our Charter Lions, Lion Jacki Jones, being diagnosed with young onset Alzheimer's Disease whilst still in her 50's. This led to an early retirement from her career as a teacher of English language and literature.
Her husband, Lion Ralph Jones, also a Charter member, is now her full time carer.
It is a progressive debilitating disease and our aim is to raise funds for The Alzheimer's Society to help them help peple like Lions Jacki and Ralph.
We are hoping to increase our walkers this year (2017) so please come along and support this wonderful cause.
