    EYEGLASS EXTRAVAGANZA RECYCLING PROGRAM:

We collect prescription, non-prescription and sun glasses which we deliver to our Lions facility in New Jersey. There they are reconditioned and distributed to Lions Clubs throughout the world. We are very proud that the Ellington community typically donates over 1,000 pair each year. Together with other Lions Clubs in Eastern Connecticut, over 30,000 pair of glasses have been  collected annually!

"LIONS KIDSIGHT USA"  Pediatric Vision Screening Program

Ellington Lions care about the vision of our school children. Our goal is to find anomalies before a student's vision impacts their learning. We conduct vision screenings using our Welch/Allen Spot device for students in Ellington Elementary Schools and local day care centers.  As fast and easy as taking a picture, the hand held device incorporates a camera and computer and is capable of detecting common vision problems in children from toddlers to teenagers. The process takes seconds and requires no eye drops nor physical contact with the child. This service  is offerred free of charge.  Before the pandemic, Ellington LIons identified approximately 100 children ages 6 months to 7 years (out of approximately 950 screened) who needed further examination by an eyecare professional.
