Meetings

Membership in our Organization

MISSION STATEMENT: To empower volunteers to serve their communities, meet humanitarian needs, encourage peace and promote international understanding through Lions Clubs.

MEETINGS: The Board of Directors meets the second Wednesday of the month at 7:00 PM via Zoom video conference.  Regular meetings will be held on the fourth Wednesday of the month.  Locations will vary.

PURPOSE: Our main goal is to raise money for eye research - as Helen Keller has dubbed us her "Knights of the Blind." We also provide many services to the communities we serve.

COMMUNITY SERVICE AND INVOLVEMENT: We offer scholarship programs; sponsor youth recreational programs for Dennis and Harwicy; sponsor a Speech Contest and a Peace Poster Contest. Our club offers our labor to build wheelchair ramps.  Our Club offers the use of a Vitrectomy Chair for those needing it after eye surgery.  We also collect used eyeglasses and hearing aids (See Eyeglass and Hearing Aid Collection Page).  We collect new and used sports equipment for those in need.

FUNDRAISING: We hold  two White Cane Days per year to raise funds for Eye Research. Once on Memorial Day weekend and the other on Labor Day weekend. We hold a Golf Closest to the Pin Contest in September and an Arts and Craft Fair at the end of July.

COMMITMENT:  Not everyone can participate in every activity. So we prepare a calendar for the year and, that way, members can pencil in all the events on their calendars, or key into their favorite electronic device! They will know what events are coming up and which ones they will be to help with at the time.

It may sound like an awful lot of work; and it is! However, we all enjoy what we do and have fun doing it.  We meet a lot of great people and it is very rewarding when we know we were able to help someone.

If you think you would like to join our club, please contact Lion Rick White - the Membership Chair..  He can be contacted at rwdhlmamc2020@comcast.net. .
