World Diabetes Day

World Diabetes Day is 14th November every year.  Its the birthday of Sir FrederickBanting, who co-invented insulin along with Charles Best in 1922

There is also a Diabetes Awareness week in 2025 it will be held from 10th June to 16th June.

Diabetes is a chronic disease that occurs when the body doesn't produce enough insulin or can’t use it properly. It can lead to serious health conditions and in many ways can be preventable.  Number of people with diabetes has doubled i

n the last 20 years in the UKThey estimate there will be more than 5.5 million people with diabetes by 2030 in the UK.  African, Asian and Indian minority groups are most at risk. Some 25,000 people each year have amputations due to complications from diabetes.

Our aim is to spread awareness and education to the benefit of the community.

Lions Clubs International World Sight Day

Since 1925, Lions Clubs International have been a leader in serving and advocating for the blind and visually impaired.

Every year  on the second Thursday of October all Lions clubs globally will be taking part in the World Sight Day. There will be some 46,000 clubs in 205 Countries taking part in the event. Lions Clubs International have a long association working with the blind and visually impaired after they were challenged to be “Knights of the Blind in the crusade against darkness” in 1925 by Helen Keller a blind person at the annual convention that year.

Lions Clubs International first initiated the white stick back in 1931 for the blind; they also pioneered the guide dogs for the blind known initially as leader dogs. They have raised over £250 million worldwide in successful “Sight First” campaigns which were to help cure preventable blindness.
