Annual Highline Canal Cleanup with City of Aurora 2nd Saturday in March

Help clean up trash and debris along the High Line Canal through Aurora. Volunteers receive a great gift and snacks! Meet at the Community College of Aurora at 8 AM.  Registration is required and volunteers must be at least 8 yrs old. Minors must be surpervised.

The High Line Canal Cleanup is a volunteer event to clear trash from the 11-mile stretch of canal that runs through Aurora. The goal for the day is to reduce the amount of trash from the canal that enters Sand and Toll Gate creeks in Aurora. It is also an opportunity to learn about the problems with littering and the importance of protecting and caring for our waterways by preventing pollution.
Volunteers are needed for this one-day event. Volunteer check-in will take place at the Community College of Aurora’s Student Center at 8 a.m. on event day. If you are affiliated with scouting, youth or church groups that are looking for ways to make a difference in their community this is a perfect opportunity. Aurora is a Take Pride In America (TPIA) city. A national partnership established by the U.S. Department of the Interior that aims to engage, support and recognize volunteers, TPIA works to improve our public lands.

Do you have old glasses you don’t know what to do with?  Donate them to the Lions club.

 CARE
 GIVE
RECYCLE

We collect and distribute used eyeglasses to countries all over the world
Throughout the year, Lions, Leos and other volunteers collect used eyeglasses and deliver them to regional Lions Eyeglass Recycling Centers, volunteers sort by prescription strength and package the glasses.  Most of the recycled glasses are distributed to people in need in developing countries where they will have the greatest impact.
It costs Lions less than US$0.08 to provide a pair of recycled eyeglasses and change someone's life.
For children, clear vision means a better education, healthier development and a better quality of life.  For adults, it means greater employment opportunity and economic strength. For seniors it means less dependence on others.
Lions clubs collect millions of eyeglasses each year, making eyeglass recycling one of our most popular activities.
How You Can Help....
If you have used eyeglasses you no longer need, you can donate them now.  Lions accept prescription and reading glasses, sunglasses and plastic and metal frames.  Children's glasses are especially needed.
