About Us

The Chester Lioness Lions Club is a volunteer service organization chartered under Lions International. Its focus is on providing hands-on services to communities in need in Chester, NJ, and its surrounding areas.  A particular focus has been on supporting women’s and family needs.

The Chester Lioness Club was chartered on October 11, 1985 and was sponsored by the Chester Lions Club. It was then chartered as the Chester Lioness Lions Club, an independent club, on May 26, 2020.  It is registered as a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit organization.

Activities planned and underway for the 2023-24 fiscal year (July 1- June 30) include:

  • Support for Vision Loss Alliance of New Jersey in preparing for and staffing fund-raising events
  • Cooking and serving dinners to the residents of the shelter at Homeless Solutions Inc.
  • Making home-cooked picnic lunches for Memorial Day, Fourth of July and Labor Day for the residents of Community Hope, a non-profit organization that provides housing and essential services to developmentally disabled individuals
  • Preparing lunch for campers at Camp Marcella, a New Jersey sleep away summer camp designed specifically for individuals with special needs including blindness, and visual impairment
  • Awarding scholarships towards college fees for graduating high school seniors
  • Purchasing supplies for the Chester Mendham and Long Valley Food Pantries
  • Working (via the First Presbyterian Church of New Vernon) with the Chaplaincy Board of the Morris County Correctional Facility to pack Christmas gifts for inmates
  • Providing “exit” baskets for women leaving the Jersey Battered Women’s Service shelter, to live on their own
  • Providing care packets for military women serving on the front lines, through Operation Jersey Cares, and
  • Supporting the residents of Chester Area Senior Housing (CASH) with personal gifts at the Holidays..

The club meets in Chester on the first Thursday of the month for a lunch/dinner meeting and on the third Thursday of the month for a business meeting.

One of our main goals this year is to increase membership so that there are more “hands” doing this valuable work to help our neighbors. It is open to all adults who are interested in providing hands-on service to local communities in need.
