WHO ARE THE LIONS?

The Black Mountains Lions Club, founded in 1973, is part of the Lions Clubs International, an association of 1.31 million Members in more than 46,000 Clubs, located in 205 countries.

Lions Clubs began in 1917 as the dream of a Chicago businessman who believed that local business Clubs should expand their horizons, from purely professional concerns,to the betterment of their communities and the world at large.

The association network of men and women work together to answer the needs that challenge communities across the world.

..........................................................................................

Members of The Black Mountain Lions Club predominantly serve our local community based in and around Hay-on-Wye. Equally importantly Members enjoy an interesting and varied social life.

ALL the money we collect has to be used for good causes; the overheads of the Association is met by the subscriptions of Members.

If you have any fund raising ideas or would like to help please contact us.

My husband Lion David and I live in Credenhill, Hereford.

I have been a Member of Lions since 2003. My inspiration for joining Lions was helping to  make a difference to the community, whether it is Local, National or International.

January 2020

We have been busy again in the run up to Christmas.  You may have seen us at the turning on of the Hay Lights where we had our Lion Tombola stall.  The mulled wine went down really well on a chilly evening but it was all good fun. Hope everyone had a good Christmas.

The 2019/20 Lions International Peace Poster competition was held one again courtesy of Gwerenyfed School.  The winning poster was painted by Eva Bryon who will receive a voucher for £50 plus a certificate.  Second was Eva Maxwell winning £20 + certificate, with Ruby Bevan coming a close 3rd.  A £100 cheque will go to the school to be spent in their art department.  Our thanks go to the staff for holding this competition every year.

We would also like to thank the Co-op in Hay for allowing us to sell our Christmas Draw tickets. The winners were:

1st prize  to  Sue Bidmead from Three Cocks,  who received a voucher for £175 to spend in the Co-op.

2nd.  Louise Llewellyn from Boughrood received a voucher for £50,

and 3rd  Shirley Stephens from Glasbury won a £25. Congratulation to all three.

Our thanks go to everyone who bought tickets and who have helped support their community through the Black Mountains Lions.  Keep an eye open for us in 2020.

If you would like information about Black Mountains Lions and Black Mountains Lions Friends (a group of people who are not Members but always help out with our fundraising activities), please get in touch with:  David James on 0845 833 740 or email Cheryl.  cherylhyde@btinternet.com
