SIGHT CONSERVATION PROJECT

Berea Lions Club Foundation is an organization made up of men and women who volunteer their time to humanitarian causes in their local, state, country, and world communities.

Berea Lions Club Foundation is a member of Lions Club International; an association founded in Chicago, Illinois, USA, in 1917. Lions Club International has grown into the world's largest service organization with more than 1 members located in more than 180 countries around the world.

In 1925, Helen Keller challenged the Lions to become "knights of the blind in the crusade against darkness." Since that time, service to the blind and visually impaired has become Lions International's most significant activity. Lions also participate in service activities emphasizing diabetic awareness, education, and research; work with the physically and mentally impaired; environmental issues; community welfare; international understanding; and youth.

Berea Lions Club Foundation sponsors a very active sight conservation project in our community.

On the first Monday of each month, the Sight Conservation Committee is available at the Berea Lions Club Community Center, 25 Lions Club Drive, Greenville, SC 29617 from 10:00 AM until 12:00 noon to meet with persons in need of assistance with sight problems.

To qualify for assistance, persons must have a Medicaid ID card or a Social Security statement of benefits form or a Form SSA-1099, or be a referred student. The person must have a pictured identification. The person must reside in Zip Code Areas 29611 or 29617, and their monthly gross income must be less than $1600.oo.

Upon Committee approval, the qualified persons will be referred to Yeager Vision Care, West Parker Road. Recipients will receive an examination and glasses.

Berea Lions Club Foundation, Incorporated, will pay Yeager Vision Care for the examination and glasses.

Berea Lions Club Foundation, Incorporated, will pay directly to other physicians, who perform in-facility services at nursing homes, at the same or lesser rate.
