A BRIEF HISTORY OF THE BEDFORD LIONS CLUB OF OHIO
The Bedford Lions Club consists of a group of civic minded men and women who have come together to render services to their community. It deems it a duty, priviledge and an honor to help any needy person or group of persons and to support, commensurate to its ability and means, any worthy cause within its civic boundaries whenever occasions arise.
The Bedford Lions Club was organized in the spring of 1926 through the efforts of the late Lion Perry Hunsicker of the Downtown Lions Club. It was spondored by the East Cleveland Lions Club.
The Bedford Lions Club held their first meeting the evening of April 27, 1926, with 14 members present. By the time the Club received it charter on February 1, 1927, 35 members stepped forward to affix their signature.
A special honor came to the local Club when on March 1, 1932, the founder of LIONISM, Melvin Jones, visited the members.
On September 11, 12, and 13 in 1930, the Bedford Lions Club held its first Carnival. The Carnival, now called a Festival, is the Club's major fund raiser and is held annually in the summer. There are foods of all kind, amusement rides, music, and games for the young and old. There is a variety of vendors to be enjoyed by adults and children.
