Brycefest Ice Cream Sale Fundraiser 2022
MELVIN JONES AWARD
At our meeting on February 15th, Dave Franz and Jerry Kunde were presented with the Melvin Jones Fellowship award. Dave's was presented by Jim Cech and Jerry received his award from John Knepper. These were the first two club members who received this coveted award.
HOLIDAY FOOD BASKETS
Once again, the club had a very successful holiday food basket program. 45 families, a total of 160 individuals, received a food basket at Thanksgiving. The basket included a ham or turkey, a pie and other items which brought the value of each basket to about $100. We then followed this at Christmas with Food Lion Gift Cards totaling $4,200 to 42 local less fortunate families. A matching grant of $2,000 from the Lions of Virginia Foundation helped make this possible.
SIGHT AND HEARING
Following a one-year hiatus due to COVID restrictions, Lions Clubs in Shenandoah County, Virginia, led by Winnie and Gary McDermott from the Basye-Bryce Mountain Lions Club, once again teamed to conduct sight and hearing screening for over 1,700 students in the nine county public schools. This screening effort marked the 14th year that the Shenandoah County Lions have worked with the county schools in this screening effort. The participating clubs included Basye-Bryce Mountain, Woodstock, Mt. Jackson, New Market, and Edinburg.
SALVATION ARMY BELL RINGING
Once again, members of the Basye-Bryce Mountain Lions Club "rang the bell" at our Woodstock WalMart. 20 club members took part in this annual event, which we did over a two day period before Christmas.
