The last quarter of 2013 was a difficult time for the Philippines. A 7.2 magnitude earthquake struck the island province of Bohol on October 15, affecting the entire Central Visayas region, destroying infrastructure and dislocating thousands of people in Bohol and Cebu. Typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan), the strongest typhoon ever recorded in the Philippines, hit the Eastern Visayas region on November 8 and devastated the Central Philippines, specially the provinces of Leyte and Samar. Thousands of lives were lost; tens of thousands more were displaced with the loss of homes and infrastructure. Typhoon Yolanda's destructive effects extended over to Palawan, an island province to the west of Leyte and Samar.
Baguio City Host Lions Club, as with the rest of Multiple District 301 Philippines, came to the aid of the many victims of the earthquake and the supertyphoon, coordinating with other service organizations such as the Red Cross to help alleviate the plight of the people in Central Philippines.
Baguio City Host Lions Club donated blankets, used clothes, and other items to the Bohol earthquake and Typhoon Yolanda victims in Samar. These items were coursed through the Philippine National Red Cross, District 301-C and District 301-B2, and were airlifted by the Philippine Armed Forces.

BCHLC made cash donations to various service organizations such as the Philippine National Red Cross and the ABS-CBN Foundation. The funds were derived from BCHLC's successful "Eye Run 2" fundraiser.
The island of Coron, Palawan was also badly affected by Typhoon Yolanda, with hundreds of residents losing their homes, their possessions, and literally losing the roofs over their heads. Baguio City Host Lions Club responded to this predicament by donating hundreds of tableware such as plates, tumblers, bowls, spoons and forks to the locals out of the funds derived from "Eye Run 2".
BCHLC is grateful to its partner in Lionism, the Children's Chance for Tomorrow Foundation in Coron.

"Eye Run 2" is the sequel to the successful "Eye Run 'Coz I Care" run-for-a-cause staged by the club back in October 2010. The funds raised in both events were used to benefit the visually-impaired and the local Red Cross. In addition, in response to the twin tragedies that struck the Philippines so recently (Bohol earthquake and Typhoon Haiyan), the funds raised in "Eye Run 2" went to support relief operations in the Central Philippines.
“Eye Run 2” featured 3K, 5K, 9K and 17K races. The top 3 finishers for each race category received medals, certificates and cash prizes. The club also brought back the “Be My Eyes”, a 500-meter footrace specially designed for visually-impaired children running alongside (or in front of) their sighted guides. The children received finisher’s certificates, loot bags and other goodies after the race.
