EYE RUN 2
Runners pose for a group shot at the 40-foot Lion's Head, the starting point of the 17K race. This photo was set-up and shot by Baguio's master photographer Ompong Tan.
"Eye Run 2" is Baguio City Host Lions Club’s run-for-a-cause held on October 20, 2013. The event was another success just like its predecessor, “Eye Run ‘Coz I Care”. We were able to generate a lot of enthusiasm… and generate some funds as well, to support the service projects of the club!
We are ever grateful to the people enthusiastically signed up for the event, the sponsors who willingly supported the cause, the race’s technical team (Team FrontRUNNER), the race and road marshals (BB-PICAG), the Philippine National Police, the Red Cross and student volunteers, our media partners, and the Lions, not just of BCHLC but from all over Baguio City and District 301-C Northern Philippines who in their own special way contributed to the success of Eye Run 2!

"Eye Run 2", while a fundraiser, was also aimed at promoting running and a healthier lifestyle among beginners and provided a challenge to the more seasoned runners. The 3K, 5K and 9K races' start and finish line was at the Baguio Convention Center, while the more difficult 17K category, which drew the most number of runners, started at the Lion's Head along Kennon Road and ended at the Baguio Convention Center.
The top finishers for each category were presented with medals and cash prizes. All racers were provided with finisher’s certificates and snacks. All 17K finishers were given miniature lion wood carvings as tokens. Photo booth sessions were also made available to the participants of EYE RUN 2. Raffles were also held at the end of the run-for-a-cause.
We commend Team FrontRUNNER for the wonderful job as race manager!

EYE RUN 2 RACE RESULTS
Here are the race results for all categories of Eye Run 2:
"BE MY EYES"
"Be My Eyes" is a special event designed for the visually-impaired children of the Northern Luzon Association for the Blind. 14 visually-impaired children raced a 500-meter course around the Baguio Convention Center. They were assisted by sighted guides – some were the children’s parents, some were their guardians, and some were Lions from BCHLC. The children were given EYE RUN 2 shirts, race bibs, finisher’s certificates and other freebies after their race, such as loot bags, hand fans and packed lunches.

PREPARING FOR THE RACE
The two months leading up to the race were busy but fulfilling days for the club as our members went about coordinating the race with our partners in Lionism, securing sponsorships, selling registrations, spreading awareness for the race and Lions Clubs in mass media, and many other tasks.
MEDIA PROMOTION
Baguio City Host Lions Club coordinated with its media partners to help promoto Eye Run 2. Project Chairperson Lion Jingle Melanie Ku Marquez led the Lions in making the media rounds, guesting on local TV and radio shows to drum up awareness for Eye Run 2.

EYE RUN 2 ORIENTATION
On October 16, 4 days before the Big Day, our club held an orientation for the sighted guides who were to lead the visually-impaired children on a specially-designed 500-meter foot race. This portion was conducted by teachers from the Northern Luzon Association for the Blind.
FrontRunner editor and race director Jonel Mendoza and BCHLC 3rd VP and Eye Run 2 Project chair Lion Jingle Melanie Ku Marquez briefed the volunteers and marshals on the race route and other technical details for the run. Representatives of the Philippine National Red Cross, BB-PICAG (Baguio Benguet Public Information and Civic Action Group), the Philippine National Police, the Baguio Photographers Club, University of the Cordilleras, the Baguio City Host Leo Club and other volunteers also attended the orientation. The club is very grateful for their support!

EYE RUN 2 FOR THE BENEFIT OF OTHERS
Proceeds from the Eye Run 2 fundraiser were used in assisting the 7.2-magnitude earthquake in Bohol and the Typhoon Yolanda victims in Samar, Leyte and other parts of the central Philippines. BCHLC made cash donations to the Philippine National Red Cross, the ABS-CBN Foundation and to the District 301-C Disaster Relief Fund. Our club also donated tableware, blankets, used clothes and other items to the thousands who were affected by these catastrophes . More details can be viewed here.

EYE RUN 2 DETAILS
Running is more than just a road/trail work...It's a work beyond the sport itself.
Back in October 2010, Baguio City (Host) Lions Club held its first ever “Eye Run ‘Coz I Care” run-for-a-cause, which produced a lot of interest among running enthusiasts, a lot of media mileage, and more importantly, a lot of awareness for Lions Clubs International. The success of the fundraiser was unexpected but very welcome, for it generated a healthy income where a large part was donated by BCHLC to the Northern Luzon Association for the Blind and the Philippine National Red Cross. The club was also able to utilize the funds in projects geared towards helping other visually-impaired individuals and other underprivileged communities.
In addition, “Eye Run ‘Coz I Care” was presented with the Beacon Award for “Outstanding Service to the Blind or Visually-Impaired” in the 2011 LCI Convention in Seattle, USA, which brought a lot of pride to every one in BCHLC who had a part in making "Eye Run" the success that it was.
Participating in "Eye Run" - whether as an organizer, a marshall, a runner, a guide to the visually-impaired- was an amazing feeling. Knowing that one has helped a person in need, even in a small way, has inspired us to strive further to be of service to others.
And this is why we're bringing back "Eye Run" and would like to invite you once again to RUN or WALK and make a difference.
