JANUARY 2025 | |

Megan Whipple is the Avon Grove Lions Senior Student of the Month for January 2025 for the Avon Grove Charter School. Megan is an active Leo Club member and a strong student at AGCS. Meghan has volunteered her time writing heartfelt welcome cards to new AGCS students in grades K-11. She enjoyed writing these cards and enjoyed telling new students how AGCS is a supportive community and all the events and activities that they can look forward to such as clubs, sports, and after school theatre. Meghan has also assisted with Trunk or Treat, a bingo event for our elementary students, Early Learning Center craft day and Ronald McDonald House meal prep. Meghan can be counted on to complete whatever is needed to ensure Leo Club activities are a success. Meghan has been accepted to a number of universities with a plan to major in Interior Design. |
Taylor Remsburg has been named the Avon Grove Lions Club Student of the Month for January 2025 for the Avon Grove High School. Taylor is the daughter of Darren and Carolyn Remsburg. Taylor's school activities include being a member of the National Honor Society, Performing Arts Club and the French Club. She is also a member of the Stage Crew and has been the Stage Manager for four shows. Taylor is an active member of the community. She volunteers at the Newark Center of Creative Learning, tutors and is a member of the Rock Climbing Team. Taylor has earned the AP Scholar Award with Distinguished Honors, the Honors Physics Award, Spanish I Award and the Director's Award for Theater. After graduation, Taylor plans to attend college and major in Chemistry with a minor in Art History. She also plans to attend graduate school for conservation and become a museum conservator. The teachers who have influenced Taylor the most are Ms. Stevens, Ms. Lytle and Ms. Creamer.

Abigail Hood, a student at the Avon Grove High School has been named the Avon Grove Lions Club Student of the Month for November, 2024. She is the daughter of Heather and Chris Hood of Avondale, PA. Abigail’s list of School Activities includes Class of 2025 Student School Board Representative, Treasurer of Student Forum (CCIU Organization), Co-President of the Yearbook Club, Secretary and Treasurer of the National Honor Society, member of PAC in freshman year, Manager of Girls Flag Football, manager of Boys Football for 3.5 years, and a member of the AGHS Student Safety Committee. She has also given tours to members of the Pennsbury School District alongside Dr. Marchese, assisted with several employee interviews, and will be an intern with the Avon Grove Athletic Trainers for the 2nd half of this school year. Abigail is an active member of the community. She has volunteered as a Concession Stand Manager for the Avon Grove Wildcats from 7th grade – 10th grade, volunteered as a Small Group leader for the Willowdale Chapel Kids Ministry weekly since 6th grade, volunteered at the MLK Community event at Lincoln University in 2024, and volunteered at the Avondale Borough Community Day Cleanup in 2023. Abigail babysits for neighbors and works at the Kennett Square Giant during the summer. Abigail has earned Distinguished Honors each year at Avon Grove High School. She has also won the Excellence in Intro to CAD Award for the 2023-2024 school year, became an AP Scholar in her Sophomore year, and an AP Scholar with Distinction in her Junior year. Abigail plans to earn a degree in Mechanical Engineering -- hopefully at the University of Tennessee. She is also interested in attending Law School to become a Patent Lawyer. The Lions honored Ian Ditzel of the Avon Grove Charter School for Academic Excellence and Community Service for the month of November 2024. Ian is an academically talented senior who creates a positive school environment wherever he goes just by being his kind welcoming self. While only joining the Leo Club this year, Ian quickly took on a leadership role as an executive member. In just a few short months, Ian has shown his dedication to community service by organizing a schoolwide project "Letters of Love" to benefit the Ronald McDonald House. Ian is a basketball team captain who is well respected by peers and adults alike. Ian plans to attend a 4-year school majoring in Psychology.

The Avon Grove Lions Senior Student of the Month from the Avon Grove Charter School for the month of October 2024 is Addison Shallis. Addison Shallis is a strong student and active National Honors Society member. Addison is passionate about caring for animals and spends her free time helping them. For the past 2 years she has partnered with Lucky Dawg Animal Rescue to foster animals, saving 70+ cats from all kinds of situations. Addison takes care of the cats until they get adopted and go to their forever home. Addison doesn't shy away from caring for the most difficult cats with all kinds of needs. At AGCS, Addison has helped with food drives, clean up around the school, and our annual blood drive. Addison hopes to become a veterinary technician continuing to work with the animals she loves.

The Lions honored Ryan McKeon of the Avon Grove High School for Academic Excellence and Community Service for the month of October 2024. Ryan is the son of Mary McKeon and Frank McKeon. Ryan’s School Activities include Class of 2025 Steering Committee Member (grades 11-12), Communications Officer and Co-Founder for Helping Hands Club (grades 11-12), AG Votes Club Member (grades 11-12), Humanitarian Club Member (grades 11-12), and Spanish Club Member (grades 10-12). Ryan is also active in his community by participating on the AGSD Future Ready Steering Committee (grades 11-12). He is the Crew Member at Primo’s Hoagies for 25 hours per week. Ryan is an AP Scholar. He also received excellence in Microsoft Office. Ryan plans to go to a four-year University for Finance with a minor in Spanish. The teachers who have influenced Ryan the most are Mrs. Polin, Mrs. Miers and Dr. Cahill. AVON GROVE LIONS CELEBRATE THE START OF THE 2024-25 YEAR!
District 14-P Governor Art Pecht joined the Avon Grove Lions for dinner and their opening ceremony - a busy year is ahead! Governor Art Pecht and the Lions congratulated Lion George Steele for his year as Club President and welcomed Lion Jack Weber as Club President for 2024-25.

AVON GROVE LIONS ANNUAL PICNIC
The AG Lions enjoyed a beautiful day for a picnic, with good conversation and food.
The Avon Grove Lions 2024 Distribution of Funds Night was held at the Penn Township Building on June 11th. Lions donated to 30 non-profit organizations and each organization shared information about their organization's services.

2024 CHARTER NIGHT
The Avon Grove Lions Club celebrated 74 years of service to the Avon Grove community at their recent Charter Night, held at the Wyncote Golf Club. Not only was the evening a fun celebration of a year of service, but the Lions proudly honored the Oxford police officers Scott Richards and Karlianna Eller as Citizens of the Year, Melvin Jones receipient Lion John Manley, District Chaplain Rev. Doris Haley's Services for Children, and welcomed new members Debbie Bollenbach and Danielle Dilks.
The Avon Grove Lions were proud to honor police officers from the Oxford Police Department as Citizens of the Year. Officers Scott Richards and Karlianna Eller, accompanied by Chief of Police Samuel Iacono, were praised for their heroic efforts in evacuating residents from a burning apartment building in September 2023. EYEGLASS COLLECTION
It is only through the kindness of our eyeglasses and hearing aids donors that we can offer the gift of sight or sound to those in need. Eyeglass can be dropped off at your local eye doctor's office, at any WalMart Vision Center, at our Book Barn or to any of our members.
