The Avon Lions Club has been active in the town of Avon, Connecticut since June 18, 1951. The Avon Lions are members of Lions District 23-B, which is one of three Connecticut districts. Our goal is to serve others in need, with additional emphasis on programs which follow the Lions' global focus on sight and vision.
We Save Sight: Since 2010 over 2,000 local children have been served by our Pediatric VIsion Screening program. We also support District Lions projects such as the Lions Low Vision Center, and the Connecticut Lions Eye Research Foundation.
We Support our Youth: We sponsor two active LEO clubs at the Avon Middle School and at the Avon High School. These clubs encourage students to develop leadership skills, foster teamwork and collaboration, and grow social awareness. The Avon Lions also provide two annual scholarships through the Avon Dollars for Scholars organization.
We Meet Humanitarian Needs: Our charitable efforts support the Avon Food and Fuel Bank, Gifts of Love; Avon Food Pantry and other local groups. We work with Avon Social Services to assist individuals in need of vision services, and fulfill other needs as they arise. Our volunteers deliver meals to shut-ins, conduct vision screenings, provide medical durable equipment on loan and perform many other hands-on projects.
We Develop Leaders: We are active in District 23-B projects and have had four members serve as District Governor. Our members have worked to better their communities by serving on the District 23-B Cabinet, the Low Vision Center Board, the Eye Research Foundation Board, and the Lions Advisory Board to the Fidelco Guide Dog Foundation, and many other Boards.
