ARLINGTON/ GLEN FALLS LIONS CLUB
Lions meet the needs of local communities and the world every day because they share a core belief – to serve their community.
Lions Clubs International is the world's largest service club organization. We have 1.35 million members in more than 45,000 clubs in more than 206 countries and geographic areas.
Lions have a dynamic history. Founded in 1917, we are best known for fighting blindness, but we also volunteer for many different kinds of community projects – including caring for the environment, feeding the hungry and aiding seniors and the disabled.
Our club was founded on June 1, 2008, and though we are a young club we have hit the ground running and have never stopped serving our communities and our motto of we serve.
We help those in need to get eye exam and glasses in our commuities. We also collect eye glasses, Hearing aids and cell phones to be re cycled and given to those in need.
Lions serve youth. We work with our Elementary schools for Flag Day teaching the meaning of the Flag and handing out small flags for the students. On the High School level we have an annual Scholarship Award. We alsogive out stockings and baskets at Christmas, and work with the school to make cards for the Veterans at the VA Hospital and to a troop overseas at Christmas. We do our Adopt a Highway and cover 2 miles in conjunction with the Robert C Byrd High School Jr. R.O.T.C. program.
We are active in the community and environment, one of our signiture projects is our tree planting. We have planted trees at the VA Hospital, Mountaineer Middle School, at the Griffin Cemetery in Glen Falls, and have trees to plant at the North View Elementary School. We also serve a dinner at the Clarksburg Mission at least once a year.
Lions are active. Our motto is "We Serve." Lions are part of a global service network, doing whatever is necessary to help our local communities.
