WALDEN LIONS CLUB AWARD IN MEMORY OF HEATHER STOBO
WALDEN LIONS CLUB AWARD IN MEMORY OF KELLY SCHEUER
WALDEN LIONS CLUB AWARD IN MEMORY OF MAITLAND WILSON

Over the past 30 plus years, the Walden Lions and Lioness Clubs have contributed to the post-secondary education of more than 60 students at Lively District Secondary School with two $1000 bursaries. This was done in memory of two very special individuals; Heather Stobo and Kelly Scheuer. Starting in 2024, the Walden Lions Club will be offering a new $1000 award in memory of our long time Lion and dear friend Lion Mait Wilson. Additionally, we are expanding our existing awards to students in the Walden area who attend any school. It is our hope that these awards will carry on the memory of these three individuals as well as inspire a new generation of youths to have a passion for giving back to their community.

HISTORY

In 1989 the Walden Lions Club (formerly the Waters Township Lions) started the Kelley Scheuer Bursary. Kelly's father Larry was a member of the Lions Club at the time and in memory of his daugther the club decided to award a bursary each year to a student at Lively District Secondary School.

In 1993 after a tragic accident took the lives of Heather Stobo Seguin and her child, the Walden Lioness Club wanted a way to remember Heather. Heather's father Llyod was a member of the Walden Lions Club and her mother Carol was a member of the Walden Lioness Club. The Lioness Club decided that a new bursary in memory of Heather would be awarded each year to a student at Lively District Secondary School.

In 2023 the Walden Lions Club suffered a huge loss when their long time friend and member Lion Mait passed away. Lion Mait was a Lions Club member for 39 years and had volunteered on many other organizations such as Boy Scouts and the Anderson Farm Museum Heritage Society. Lion Mait held every position available in the club and was awarded the prestigious Melvin Jones Fellowship award for his countless hours of dedication to his community. In 2024 the Walden Lions decided that the best way to honour a man who gave so much of himself to his community was to start a new award and base it heavily on volunteer hours. We want to help the empathetic volunteers and leaders of tomorrow with their post secondary education, in memory of a Lion who valued family, compassion and community above all else.
