๐Ÿ“ธ๐Ÿฆ HAPPY EASTER ๐Ÿฆ๐Ÿ“ธ

Wishing our entire community a very Happy Easter! Thank you for spending the morning with us on Saturday!

We took so many pictures and we wanted to share! This was such a successful event we cannot wait to do it again!

Thank you for always supporting your Walden Lions and your community! ๐Ÿฆ♥๏ธ

๐Ÿ“ฃ HUGE SHOUT OUT ๐Ÿ“ฃ

We’d like to send a huge shoutout to two businesses that helped us out during our egg hunt!

We use Duplicators Inc. for all of our Walden Lions name tags (they really do the best work!) so when we needed signs for our Easter egg hunt we knew they’d be the best people for the job! Not only did they create these incredibly beautiful signs for us, they donated them to the club free of charge. When communities come together to share their skills and take care of each other great things happen! Thank you to Joe & his team (extra shoutout to Zach for his design skills) for their generosity, help and support.

The other business we’d like to shout out is Sherwin-Williams Sudbury Branch for donating 5 giant pails for all our Easter eggs! Every year we have to awkwardly carry the boxes out while we try to disperse the eggs…but not this year! This year we had 5 heavy duty pails with handles that made the work a breeze! It’s the little things like this that make all these volunteer hours even easier! Thank you to the team there for their contribution! ♥๏ธ๐Ÿฆ

When it comes to our neighbours we’d like to thank a very special individual, our friend Sue! Thank you Sue for donating a massive bag of plastic Easter eggs as well as many many baskets! We had a few families show up without a basket and we were able to supply them with one! We appreciate you always ♥๏ธ!

And finally a shoutout to Amie The Book Lady for joining us on Saturday! The books were a huge hit with families and it was so great to be able to help contribute to children literacy! We hope to have Amie back with us at future events!

Thank you to each and every person who attended our pancake breakfast, and to each of our little egg hunters! Also huge thank you to all non-lions who volunteered with us! Your hours did not go unnoticed (printing your membership applications now ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿคž๐Ÿป♥๏ธ). Supporting our local events ensures we are able to host more in the future!

See all pictures of the event HERE and check out our memory video HERE.

We can’t wait to serve you again Walden! Keep your eyes open for our next event in June! ๐Ÿคซ

Student looking for volunteer hours? We’ll be doing a community clean up on May 8th from 4-6pm if you’d like to join us! Reach out today! ๐Ÿ—‘๏ธโ™ป๏ธ

๐Ÿ€ WYBL 2023-24 ๐Ÿ€

The Walden Lions would like to send a huge congratulations to their incredible youth basketball team for that amazing final game and an incredible season!

We are extremely proud to have you all wearing our logo! Each of you showed true sportsmanship, commitment and positivity throughout the entire season. ๐Ÿฆ

Your community watched you all grow as athletes and as little humans making your mark on this world.

Allie, Allison, Autym, Blake, Dawson, Jaxon, Kinsey, Noah, Owen, & Xavier - you are all forever welcome into our Lions family! A giant lion roar goes out to each of you!

Thank you to Walden Youth Basketball League - WYBL for allowing us to sponsor these young athletes! Thank you for keeping kids active, engaged and involved in sport!

๐ŸŽ“๐Ÿง‘๐Ÿผ‍๐ŸŽ“GRADUATION AWARDS๐Ÿ‘ฉ๐Ÿพ‍๐ŸŽ“๐ŸŽ“

Your Walden Lions are very excited to announce their 2024 monetary awards for all students who reside in our catchment area!

Over the past 30 plus years, the Walden Lions and Lioness Clubs have contributed to the post-secondary education of more than 60 students at Lively District Secondary School. This was done in memory of two very special individuals; Heather Stobo and Kelly Scheuer. Starting in 2024, the Walden Lions Club will be offering a new award in memory of our long time Lion and dear friend Lion Mait Wilson. Additionally, we are expanding our existing awards to students in the Walden area who attend any school. It is our hope that these awards will carry on the memory of these three individuals as well as inspire a new generation of youths to have a passion for giving back to their community.

If you’re interested in applying click HERE to download the application.

Spread the word Walden! We want all students to know that these are available!

๐Ÿ“–๐Ÿ“šTWEEN BOOK CLUB ๐Ÿ“š๐Ÿ“–

Walden we have a new exciting club coming your way! Do you have a son or daughter aged 10-13yrs who loves to read? Let us introduce you to the very first Walden Lions Tween Book Club!

Once a month a group of 10-13yr olds will gather at the den to discuss a book they read during the month which will lead to deeper thinking and consideration of plots, characters, and ideas presented by the author.

Some Benefits of a Tween Book Club

โžก๏ธ It exposes kids to books they may not have picked for themselves ๐Ÿ‰๐Ÿ•ต๐Ÿฝ๐Ÿ‘ป
โžก๏ธ It provides kids with a safe space for sharing their true thoughts ♥๏ธ
โžก๏ธ It creates lasting friendships and promotes reading as a social activity

๐Ÿ“–๐Ÿ“š DETAILS ๐Ÿ“š๐Ÿ“–

1๏ธโƒฃ Limited spaces, as the group will be kept small at 10-12 participants to promote conversation and participation. Message us to register!
2๏ธโƒฃ We plan to meet every 3rd Monday at 6pm, however if the Monday falls on a holiday we will move it to another day. A six month calendar will be supplied to parents.
3๏ธโƒฃ The first meet will be at the beginning of April to introduce the participants, the club and the first book!
4๏ธโƒฃ Parents are welcome to drop kids off at 6 and return at 7, if parents chose to stay they are reminded that they are not part of the conversation, as this is all about promoting the children to express their thoughts
5๏ธโƒฃ Physical books will not be provided. If your child has a tablet, ereader or phone a copy of the book will be supplied in that format. For a physical copy parents will have to borrow from the library or purchase the book.
6๏ธโƒฃ There is no fee for the club, however children will be asked to collect milk bags (if they have them) and bring them into the club when we meet once a month! Milk bags are donated to help make beds for those living outdoors.

Now as an added bonus for the month of March we are partnering with Amie The Book Lady (www.amiethebooklady.ca) for their Love of Literacy Book Drive! Any books purchased through Amie during the month of March will go towards books for the Walden Lions! We are currently thinking up a fun idea to donate these books back to our community!

๐Ÿฉธ๐Ÿฉฒ END PERIOD POVERTY ๐Ÿฉฒ๐Ÿฉธ

Have you heard of “Period Poverty” before? Period poverty is a term used to describe a lack of access to proper menstrual products.

As per the Government of Canada:

“Lack of access to menstrual products is closely linked to poverty and disproportionately impacts youth, single mothers, Indigenous peoples, Black and other racialized communities, immigrants, people experiencing homelessness, people living with disabilities, gender diverse individuals, and those who live in remote areas.”

Did you know:

โžก๏ธ One in six Canadians who menstruate have personally experienced period poverty; this rises to one in four if their household earns less than $40,000 a year.

โžก๏ธ One in five who menstruate say they may not afford period products at some point in the next 12 months.

As you know your Walden Lions are always looking at ways to support our community and that’s why for the month of March we are launching our Feminine Product Campaign, right in time for International Women’s Day on March 8th!

From March 1-31 we will have two boxes available for you to make a donation of period products. For each package of pads, or tampons, or period cups or period underwear donated to the box, your Walden Lions will donate $10, up to a maximum of $2000.

All products and money will be donated to the Walden Food Bank to help support feminine hygiene right here in our community.

Our boxes will be located at the Lively Greater Sudbury Public Library and at Walden Family Drugstore!

When Lion Don from the Whitefish Lions reached out to us for help building a ramp for a community member in need, we knew we needed to be there!

This week Lions Don, Stewart and Mark grabbed their hammers and joined up with the Whitefish Lions to help them on a ramp building project. We love lions helping lions helping people, it’s just got such a good feeling to it! Don’t you think?! ๐Ÿฆ๐Ÿ”จ

Looking to give back to your community? We’re always looking for new faces to join our family! Don’t ever be shy to reach out!

Walden family! This is your reminder that tomorrow (Wednesday August 16) the Anderson Farm Museum Heritage Society - AFMHS will be hosting their third Rock the Farm of the season!

Starting at 4pm you can head down and shop the farmers and vendors market! Don’t forget to bring cash and your reusable bags! You’ll want to bring your chair because going on the stage at 5:30 is Dual Play Band!

As always your Walden Lions will be on site to sell 50/50 in support of AFMHS (so that they can continue putting on these incredible events!) and we’ll also have our booth set up for all things lions! Here you can chat us up about what we’re doing in the community, how you can get involved or just to say hi! We’ll also have our eyeglasses and hearing aid drop off box!

Can’t wait to see you on the farm!

Wow!! You know you’re in the presence of great people when two of your fellow lions are being presented with awards for 45 & 30 years of service to their community!!

Lion Don Raymond recently received a 45-Year Monarch Chevron Award for his 45 years of service to Lions and to his community! You may recognize Lion Don around town but also from his heavy participation in Northern Cancer Foundation’s Rally For Dad ride! Lion Don has been supporting this incredible cause for years and goes above and beyond fundraising for the ride. Lion Don does incredible work in his community and we are so proud to say he’s part of our family!

Lion Bob Hobden was also part of award night receiving his 30-Year Monarch Chevron Award for his 30 years of service to his community! You’ll for sure recognize Lion Bob as he’s been Santa at the tree lighting ceremony for many many years! He’s probably part of your family pictures because of it! You may also recognize him from “The Liar’s Club” play through Windmill Theatre that happened this past May! That’s right local celebrity!! ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿฅณ Lion Bob can always be found around town chatting up the community and finding ways to continue giving back!

We want to send a huge congratulations to our two Lions for all their incredible work within our community! We are so proud to have you in our pride!

Lions Club members are passionate about keeping kids in sports, active and engaged. If you’re ever looking for ways to do that, sponsor a sports team. Sponsors keep costs low for families which means more kids can play!

This year we are so fortunate to have been able to sponsor a U12 team through Walden Minor Soccer Association! Our team has 3 super fun coaches and 17 smiling, friendly and active athletes!

We want to thank Coach Rob, Randee and Adrien for showing up for these kids and helping shape them into the best soccer players they can be!

Sending a huge shoutout to the athletes for their hard work this season so far: Weston, Jacob, Owen, Jaxon, Olivier, Carter, Autym, Laila, Miley, Alex, Kalyssa, Ella, Xavier, Wyatt, Summer, Brendan and Tristan!

๐Ÿ“ธ Lions Jen, Mait, Bob, Stewart, Claire & the LDSS Robotics Team

Recently we had the pleasure of visiting the Lively District Secondary School to meet the Lively RoboHawks; Lions Claire, Bob, Stewart, Mait & Jennifer got to meet the team and present them with a donation to their incredible program!

Last year, the #RoboHawks had their 9th competition season. The game was titled Freight Frenzy! In the game robots aimed to move freight from a warehouse to shipping hubs and storage units. This competition consisted of both autonomous mode and teleoperation. Their biggest success was in the York competion where the team finished 8th out of the 20 participating teams!

Walden Lions are committed to helping our schools develop entrepreneurs in robotics for our future!

A big thank you to teachers Mr. Tim Walker and Mr. Chris Dinnes, plus all of their helpers spearheading this passionate club.

Go RoboHawks go!

๐Ÿ“ธ Lions Randee & Keisha with Marina & Volodymyr and many future Leos!

A couple of weeks ago Lion Keisha met a family from Ukraine while out running errands. She was able to connect them with someone local to help them get situated with their new lives here in Sudbury!

Fast forward a few weeks later and Volodymyr, his wife Marina and their daughters joined us for their first Canadian Halloween experience. While out they asked us why we go trick or treating.

After we went through the small history of Halloween, we realized it was more than that. Halloween is one of those times every year where the community comes together. With each knock on the door for a trick or a treat, we greet our neighbours and say hello to the future generation! The children say thank you and they remember each house that they got to visit.

It was an absolute treat to share this experience with our new friends. It was incredible to hear about their home country and the many experiences they've had here in Canada so far.

Volodymyr, Marina and their daughters were grateful for the Halloween experience and we were so grateful to learn more about their customs and traditions. You never know how one act of kindness can affect a family's life!

๐Ÿ“ธ Lions Randee & Keisha with the crew from the Walden Food Bank, the Walden Ringette Association and the Walden Minor Hockey Association

What an absolutely incredible evening! The Walden community has done us proud and the food bank is overflowing! Sending a huge shoutout to all the planners, volunteers, the 20+ teams who canvassed 70+ streets and to all of the generous people in our community!

The weather was perfect and the teams knocked on every door they could get to! We even got to streets that weren’t originally on the list! It was so empowering to see all these young athletes out there supporting the community that cheers them on at every game.

The Walden community came together! #WaldenProud

Thank you to everyone who donated their time, food and all cash donations. The Walden Food Bank volunteers were extremely thankful!

๐Ÿ“ธ Lions Jen, Randee & Keisha with some members of the Onaping Falls Lions Club

Last night 3 of our Walden Lions spent the evening with the Onaping Falls Lions Club at their bi-weekly meeting!

Our Lions had the opportunity to connect with their club and learn about different volunteer opportunities. What the team loved the most was the Onaping Falls Lions Club dedication to their community.

Sending a huge thank you to the Onaping Falls Lions Club for the inspiration and energy. Looking forward to visiting again soon!
