Citizen of the Year

A Tolland resident is recognized as Tolland's Citizen of the Year for extraordinary volunteer work. A donation is made to a charity of the recipient's choice.

Eyeglasses Collection

In 2015, over 1,000 eyeglasses were collected at 13 drop-off sights in Tolland and Vernon. The glasses were sent to a Lions Eyeglass Recycling Center. Volunteers cleaned, sorted by prescription strength and packaged the glasses.  Most of the recycled glasses are distributed to people in need in developing countries.

Tolland Collection Sites: Tolland Library, United Bank, Tolland Eyecare, Dr. David Palozej, SaviningsInstitute Bank & Trust, and Dr. Fred Daniels. Vernon/Rockville Sites:  Dr. Malkin, United Bank, Dr. Barry Haight, Rockville Library, and Vernon Senior Center.

Lions Field

Lions Field was built and has been maintained at Crandall's Park for over forty years. The field is used by Tolland Little League and for baseball playoffs.

Lions KidSight USA

Tolland Lions began participating in Lions Kidsight USA program in 2012. A special camera is used to screen a preschool child's vision  Approximately 300 Tolland preschool children have had their eyesight screened through this program during the four years, resulting in one to two children a year being referred to a doctor for evaluation of their vision. Memorial Day Pancake Breakfast

A pancake breakfast is served on the Green from  8:00 AM-11:00 Am on Tolland's Memorial Day Celebration. The delicious breakfast includes pancakes, sausage, orange juice, milk, and coffee.  Following the breakfast from 11:00 AM-1:00 PM,  hot dogs, soda, water, and cotton candy are sold to people who have gathered for the 1:00 PM parade.

Peace Poster

Since 2010, Tolland has participated in the Lions International Peace Poster Contest. The contest is open to all students ages 11-13. A Tolland Middle School art teacher works with the 6th grade art students to design and submit posters. The Tolland Lions' members select and award a first, second, and third place winner.

Spirit of Spring 5K Race

The Tolland Lions Club in coordination with the Tolland Knights of Columbus hold a 5K Spirit of Spring Road Race on the first Saturday of April.  In addition, an Easter egg hunt and a non-competitive  walk or jog are held   More information may be obtained on the race website at
